Movie dialogue that should be retired.

I love the "ironic" version of this, used for comic relief. As in The Last Crusade:

Elsa: It's perfectly obvious where the pages are. He's given them to Marcus Brody.
Professor Henry Jones: Marcus? You didn't drag poor Marcus along did you? He's not up to the challenge.
Walter Donovan: He sticks out like a sore thumb. We'll find him.
Indiana Jones: The hell you will. He's got a two day head start on you, which is more than he needs. Brody's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again. With any luck, he's got the grail already.
[Cut to middle of fair in the Middle East, Marcus Brody wearing bright suit and white hat, sticking out like sore thumb]
Marcus Brody: Uhhh, does anyone here speak English? Or even Ancient Greek?

And that right there is why Hudson despises that movie. :)

Temple was merely tasteless. Crusade actually insults the viewer's intelligence.

Skull...well, that's just plain offensive to anyone or anything with a limbic system.

The trilogy itself is very solid for me (the most solid series of all time before the unmentionable struck cinemas)...of course I have Raiders as the second best film ever poo pooing made, so there's gonna be something of a dropoff. But I do love me some Doom and Crusade.

I'd agree that Raiders is great stuff but the drop off between Raiders and Temple looked like a plunge off a cliff, to me. I mean, it's tough to even believe that the same producing team perpetrated the sequels...

The wonderfulness that is the first film makes the horrible horrible sequels even crappier, by comparison.

YMMV.

Not to turn the thread into a debate about the Indy films, but it's not like Doom didn't, er, stretch credulity in its own right. I think Last Crusade was a step up.

'Ooh mooey mooey I love you!'

'My forgotten, da Bosses will do terrible tings to me TERRRRRIBLE is me going back der!'

'Wesa got a grand army. That's why you no liking us meesa thinks.'

'Monsters out there, leaking in here. Weesa all sinking and no power. Whena yousa thinking we are in trouble? '

'Better dead here than deader in the Core. Ye gods, whatta meesa sayin'? '

'Mesa day startin pretty okee-day with a brisky morning munchy, then BOOM! Gettin very scared and grabbin that Jedi and POW! Mesa here! Mesa gettin' very very scared!'

'Yoosa should follow me now, okeeday?'

'How wude!'

'Hey yo, Daddy, Captain Tarpals. Mesa back. '

'Mesa cause one, two-y little bitty axadentes, huh? Yud say boom de gasser, den crashin der bosses heyblibber, den banished. '

'Mesa called Jar-Jar Binks. Mesa your humble servant.'

LMAO!!! :laugh::crybaby::cheesy:

Crusade was more entertaining for me than Temple, but I am an avowed Connery addict, Short Round and Kate Capshaw bugged the crap out of me, and the shortfalls of Crusade (of which there are many) are easier for me to swallow.

Skull is a festering pus-filled waste of John Hurt.

I have to admit that the parts of Crusade with Connery were among its least suckful moments.

John Hurt was in Skull? See, I'd actually forgotten that.

The therapy is working.

But Doom at least went all the way and had the courage of its convictions. Crusade felt timid, like Spielberg felt he had to apologize for the over the top darkness of the 2nd film. And just on a craftsmanship level, I think Doom is better shot, has better action sequences and better music. Crusade just bores me. Last time I watched it I shut it off halfway through.

Because "The Man" is holdin' us down you mutha...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) kidding.

That was so true in the 80's and I found it hilarious. Now it's not too bad.

LOL. Was it a racist thing back then or what? I just remebered seeing loads of movies where the black dude HAD to die. Or either say "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" or "daaaaaamn" or "motherfuuucker!!!" LOL.

Blame the scriptwriter.

I guess we'll just have to disagree. Doom had waaaay too much "precocious kid," a particularly vile staple of the '80s; the mine cart scene is just nigh unto stupid, and the slapstick jokes were subpar. Plus, it had no spiritual connection to Raiders. Totally different universes, even different genres. Crusade felt like it was in the same continuity.

Raiders: Best Indy film ever! One of the best films ever made for that matter.
Doom: Way too over the top for me. By the time they jumped out of the plane I was done.
Crusade: Not Raiders but a welcome return. Far better than Doom for me.

There is no fourth movie.

Raiders is nothing short of a Perfect Film. The order in which the franchise should be viewed, based on best to not best, is Raiders, Temple and Crusade.
