Movie dialogue that should be retired.

Perhaps we can put together a script that incorporated EVERYTHING from this thread..."oh, the humanity...":Drogar-Happy(DBG):

I am absolutely 100% down with an unofficial, cafe-based Cliche-ScriptFest!

Who else is in? Let's start talking about some rough guidelines...

How does this sound?

Writing Period: 3 - 5 weeks
Page-count: 1 - 25 pages
Required element: A watermelon stand

Also not dialogue but...
Watching "Lost" a couple weeks ago as Sawyer stares hatefully into the mirror at himself.

I'm saying out loud "Don't do it! Don't do it!"

-Sawyer punches the mirror.

"You did it..." *sigh*

The SAG should impose hefty fines for (over)using that.

The same exact conversation with the TV happened at my house during that episode...except it was both my wife and I saying, "He's not going to punch the mirror. Tell me he's not going to punch it."

And of course, he did.

"We've got company"
And in honor of that line....

Oh yeah, I seriously shudder whenever that line is spoken.

And, to the annoying phone gags, I hate how they NEVER say "good-bye" when they hang up. They don't even say a version of it. No, "talk to you later", "see you around", "gotta go", nothing. It's just, "You and Mason had better be there at five!" *CLICK*

But this, for me, is the queen mother of over-used lines in all of Cinema...."your ego is writing checks that your body can't cash."

Ive seen that in alot of american movies, people just hang up the phone without saying bye or seeya. WEIRD.

Also, I am sick to DEATH when in scary movies (they not ever scary actually) the person who hears a nosie of something in the house always go "HELLO??? HELLO??? Is anybody there?" Instead of something refreshing like "who the mother f*ck is that yo?" "Whoever that is I will sh*t on your head if you don't come out" And they walk real REAL SLOW like they are wading through a river....NO ITS NOT BLOODY ANTICIPATING ITS FRIGGIN ANNOYING!!!

Any movie making any reference to other movie. ie, "we are going to need a bigger boat" Any Austin Powers movie, "I know Ku Fu" and so on.

saw one on Damages last night that I see all too often. Someone hands a character a damning piece of evidence and the exchange is always the same.

"Where did you get this?"

"Doesn't matter where I got it. All that matters is..."

Amen to that. "They're here" was mentioned as well.
You guys are bringing up so many good ones.

Well, this one is a general one to the cops shows...even more prevalent in the C.S.I. shows. It's their over-use of cop lingo. Like the word "Vic" for victim. Or "Perp" for perpetrator. "Juvie" or "Juv" for juvenile, etc. Now, I know that these are actual acronyms and are used in law enforcement situations but the C.S.I. shows are so over-the-top, glitzy and presentational that they just come off as bad writing and make the actors look corny. We get it, its a cop show. But the use of these abbreviations just make the production seem too self-aware, like "look at me. I'm a cop show and I'm saying cop words."

Hell, we can start an entire thread just on bad cop cliches.
1. Bad Coffee
2. Addressing one another by last name.
3. Salty veteran always hating their newly assigned rookie or "rook."
4. Salty veteran telling the "rook" to stay outta his way and watch and learn.
5. Police captain with ulcer.
6. Police captain eating antacid tables.
7. Police captain who is very temperamental
8. Police captain who likes to use the phrase "I busted my ass" a lot. As in, "Mahoney. I busted my ass to get to where I am and I'm not about to get sent back to traffic detail over a God Damn hunch!"
9. Police captain who always caves to the protagonist by giving him 24 more hours. Apparently, all major crimes don't need weeks or years to be solved. They just need a final 24 hours.
10. And, please don't take this as racist, just something I've noticed...most Police Chiefs are black.
11. Witnesses who do not stop what they are doing when they are being questioned by homicide detectives. I mean, they are HOMICIDE detectives. Put down the crate of fish already and answer their questions. At least look nervous.
12. Witnesses who possess one of 3 popular vocations. A. Dock worker B. Bartender C. Whore
13. Ex-wife or Girlfriend who left him because of the dangers of his job or that he was married to his cop-life and she couldn't take it anymore.
14.

Feel free to add...
