Movie budgets

Como's back. back again
I've recently been looking movie budgets..

Some movie budgets I have in mind are Evan Almighty's $200 million dollar film.

Titanic, being $200 million as well.

The Strangers being $10 million. Pineapple Express being $30 million.

My main question is, what does most of this money go out to?

I'm surprised Pineapple Express cost so much, and I'm wondering what the majority of the budget went to.

Now a days, what's an expensive budget, and what's a cheap budget? I know that may be hard to answer, considering it could do to the fact of how big the movie is in the end.

Average studio pic: $40-100 million.

Blockbuster budget: $200-$250 million

Obviously a big portion are above the line costs (actors, directors, producers)

I asked myself the same question a long time ago, I think that once you put together a moderate budget for say a commercial, that you realize that everything costs, everything and everyone, food and insurance you would be surprized how much of the budget goes on those two things

I wondered the same question a few weeks ago and found this. idk how accurate that is but its probably at least ballpark. It has some figures from real blockbusters.

Here is an interesting Titanic budget story. A friend of mine who was a loader/2nd AC worked on the modern portion of the movie in Canada. and for almost a month he was never officially off the clock. With the crazy hours (Cameron is nuts, cleaning salt off camera's), traveling to and from shore to the hotel, with the union rules he basically got paid 24/7. Enough to put a substantial down payment on his house. Not bad for a 2nd AC who only worked on a small portion of the movie.
Pretty easy to blow through 200 mil at that rate.

A good Chris Rock joke--

"Blair Witch cost 60,000 dollars to make???....Someone's walking around with 59,000 dollars in their pocket!"
