I’ve been asked to do a movie with longer clips, no digital zoom effect, movement, no indian

…Here it is

My impressions ont the lens : solid, heavy (420g), compact, sharp at full aperture T2.1, only 8.5cm minimum focus distance.
The ND filter : good first impressions, and two great options on it : lever and hard stop ! Perfect for video !

Well done Seb.

For someone who is not an optics specialist, Andrew Chan is really a genius.

And I'm glad you included some longer clips. Your initial 25mm footage inspired me back when to get that lens, and this makes me so excited to start working with my 10mm.

This is some of the most natural looking footage I've seen yet from the GH4. Nice shooting with a great looking lens.

Have been using the EOSHD CineV settings myself - in fact, they were the first ones I tried and liked them so much that I haven't bothered playing around with anything else. However, based on seeing this footage have put the master pedestal at 0.

Seb - Is the master pedestal setting the only one you changed from the EOSHD settings? Thanks.

Thanks flak :) Yes I've just change EOSHD setting with the master pedestal on 0. A colorist friend of mine told me not to touch to the master pedestal. But with this setting I'm using since my last two movies maybe I found the black a little too deep. I have to do some test about this, in a way it's a question of personal taste, opposite to a colorist....

Thanks, Seb. Will be interested in the results of your testing.

Haven't shot anything yet myself since setting the master pedestal back at 0 to compare with how I had it set previously. I was open to setting the master pedestal back to 0 because I'd seen enough posts about why one shouldn't mess with the master pedestal to be wary of it - even though my personal experiences with it were quite good.

So having had doubts about the wisdom of messing with the master pedestal and then seeing your footage and how great it looks ungraded was enough to convince me to set it at 0. Especially since I'd found that I was almost always lowering the black in post with my previous master pedestal setting. Which actually wasn't a big deal. And, in fact, had it not been for the general controversy about messing with the master pedestal, I probably would not have set it back to 0 - leaving well enough alone.

Of course, I realize no single set of settings is ideal for different shooting conditions. However, I shoot mainly run 'n gun and so finding something that's suitable for a wide range of different situations is desirable. And I have to say, in my experience, the EOSHD CineV settings are pretty nice in that regard. And I especially like the skin tones I've been getting with those settings. Your footage confirms that as well.

Thanks flak, it seems that EOSHD vine setting are performing good with this lens

Love your stuff Seb! The coolest home movies done with style and atmosphere.

SLR magic lenses really work on the GH4. Somewhere between vintage (character, flare, bokeh, funky colours) and modern (sharp). I'm slowly collecting the whole set (12, 25, 35) and would love to add the 10 to the list with the anamorphic too. I wish they'd do an 85 also but in the meantime I use my FD 85 1.4 instead.

Thanks nobbystylus, you did a perfect analyse of SLR lenses :)
