Movements of wings

When you look at this video: http://web.me.com/gugulino1/Gull.mov

you see that the wings are doubled in some frames. Is this normal? I recorded in 1080 50i and the shutter was set to 180°. I think it is because of the slow shutter. When I set SYNCRO SCAN to off, does the AF100 set the shutter speed automatically?
The weather was foggy, therefore the gull looks not very sharp. I also fully zoomed with the 14-140mm.

I'm not seeing it. You're seeing it in this quicktime you linked? or just in the original? The file you uploaded is 25p, not 50i, so it must have already been deinterlaced. Seems likely that what you are seeing (in your original footage?) is bad deinterlacing. How are you deinterlacing for playback? If you view 50i with certain types of deinterlacing like blend or weave you'll end up with two images overlayed on each other.

You may just want to shoot progressive? 50i will require some kind of deinterlacing for progressive playback (basically viewing on any kind of monitor besides outputting interlaced video natively to a CRT). When using interlaced footage, you basically have to decide which kind of artifact you can live with, combing, ghosting, interpolation, or losing half your resolution.

It occurs also in the linked QT movie. The wings do not go up and down smoothly. They move like the second pointer of a clock, from one tick to the other.
I imported with Final Cut Pro into ProRes 422. I don't know how deinterlacing is set in ProRes 422.
It is true that in the linked image I can not pause the video and see two wings at a different position in the same image. Might be the deinterlacing.
Here is a screen shot from the original when I hit pause:

Looks like blend deinterlacing to me. Then when you exported the one you linked to in 25p, it probably discarded the extra interlaced frames so it didnt show up in that one.

i agree about the interlacing, mine was shot progressive, perhaps yours was in 50/60i? or if you shot progressive maybe accidentally rendered it to interlaced? the odd thing is that the wings are the only thing in the frame which do that, i kinda almost feel like it's a shutter effect, but probably is just blend deinterlacing.

I found out that this doubling effect only happens in QuickTime X Player. When I play back the same file in Final Cut Pro I do not see this effect.

it may be because FCP can play interlace footage back properly (or that your timeline is set for interlace footage).

Yeah, might be. But, the movement of the wings in imdjay's video looks smoother. Probably, because of the higher frame rate. I will try to shoot some seagulls again with 25p or perhaps with 50p in 720px resolution. With 50p the movements may look smoother. And probably I should set SYNCRO SCAN to OFF. Should I also set the Shutter to off? If I understood correctly, when the shutter is off then the shutter speed is set to 1/50 in 50Hz and 25p mode.
