Moved Across the Earth - short mood doc (HVX)

It's April, and if you've been keeping track, you know that April is a whole different month from February. With that in mind, we invite you to view the April Media of the Month: "Moved Across the Earth".

This time we slow it down a bit with a short documentary/mood piece, which we'd like to think would feel right at home on NPR somewhere. Maybe you're sitting in your reading nook, sipping a hot cup of chamomile, listening to the patter of raindrops on your windowsill as you read from that collection of Proust your grandfather left you. But then you realize that the Psychic Bunny Media of the Month is ready and waiting, and you click, click, click that link.

Better than Proust? More sexually explorative? Comments welcome!

Special thanks to Erik Schoster over at http://www.hecanjog.com for the music.

i was a bit distracted by the parts when she started talking to the camera but it was very well done and enjoyable. how is the workflow with the hvx on small projects like these, did you use p2 cards or firestore? also, i'm guessing you render with quicktime pro, what bitrate / keyframes do you have yours set at?

I agree, I wish she wasn't doing that, but I had pretty limited footage to work with.

Workflow was basically non-existent on this project. Shot to 2 4gb cards. At one point transferred by firewire direct from the camera to my laptop, and then shot a bit more. About 25 minutes of footage in total, if I remember correctly.

The final web render was generated in Compressor, using settings based fairly closely off the "Quicktime 7 Streaming LAN" preset.

Thanks for watching!

So, two weeks later, hopefully people are in a more railroad-oriented mood, as railroad season approaches!

Oh, I've just noticed that usually when you post an opinion around these parts, I agree with it entirely. I can't think of anything specific, because I have the memory of a twig.

Well, that's cool. I need to go back to your site and check it out more. Are you making a short film a month? That's very cool. I'm so wrapped up in hurrying up and waiting while making a big, overseas documentary that I'm missing opportunities to actively do it here at home on an ongoing basis.

I *personally* am not making a short film every month, but my company as a whole is. Except, well, we're kinda busy right now and haven't figured out yet what we're doing for May! We should get on that.

Good luck with your doc! You should take a week off and make some damn silly thing.

very cool little piece. great mood and tone...... I can definitely relate to what the young lady is talking about, I love trains and subways too

I have hours and hours of stock train/subway/railroad footage and raw audio for noise-scape music that I write

good job broseph

Thanks. I will this summer, actually. Last year we took part in a karaoke video challenge at the Northwest Film Forum, and blew people away with a video for "Love Hurts". We're planning to take part again this year. We're thinking about Dolly Parton's "Me and Little Andy" (one of the creepiest songs I've ever heard). Should be fun.

I keep meaning to post "Love Hurts", but I don't want to post it on You Tube and we don't yet have the infrastructure to post it on our own site (mostly because we don't have a site yet). One of these days...

Why don't you want to post it on YouTube? Does that apply to other superior options like Revver, Brightcove and so forth? Lots of good choices out there these days. Maybe too many.

Well, it does contain copywrited music. I'd rather keep it low key and be able to direct people to it.

I was checking out Brightcove the other day (was taking a look at "Drawn by Pain", which is pretty cool) - and that looks like it might be a good option.
