Movcam Odyssey 7Q bracket mini-review (lots of pictures)

This looks like a nice mounting plate... so much cheese! Thanks for sharing, Paul.

I like how close the threaded holes are to the bottom right corner; I've been looking for something that would let me mount the O7Q to this Tilta EVF mount (http://vimeo.com/73300152) with 2 or even 3 screws to securely hold it in place. The other plates I've looked at don't seem to have threaded holes out that far towards the corner.

Do you see any reason why this wouldn't work? I'm willing to concede that it may not be the most *ideal* mounting option, but as long as it doesn't feel like it's going to come apart in my hands when I'm adjusting the positioning, I'll be happy :)

I did research the Tilta thoroughly but at the time it didn't look like a good match for the naked O7Q. However, it might work with the Movcam plate as it has slotted mounting points for the screws, so could in theory mount to the Movcam plate. Mounting via the bottom threaded holes means that the Tilta plate might possibly get in the way of the BNC connectors on the RHS, but maybe those wouldn't get used anyway?

since that video was made, there's actually an upright piece that's bolted to the Tilta EVF plate. This is a pic the Cinegearpro guys sent me with rough dimensions. Might offer alternative fixing options. Without looking at it more closely, seems that it could work.

I'm having a helluva time getting my hands on these parts. Ordered the cage from CVP 10 days ago and they still don't have them in stock. Opted to go with the Lanparte rosette adapter off Amazon--it got lost on its trip over from China so they're sending another one, 10-20 days delivery.

Any thoughts on using the Ikan Tilta Extension Arm instead of the Movcam? Half the price of the MC and seems like it would be lighter but might not space far enough off the camera :dunno

Looks like it would work. I don't think there's any problem with it working in the space just above and the the rear of the FS700 clearance wise. Where are you planning on mounting the Lanparte rail to rosette adapter? what rig do you have?

I do see that the tilta arm only has one locking lever though so you'd need to get another. It's also longer than the movcam but should be good.

Yeah I noticed that about the lever as well. I have the same rig as you except mine is Movcam;) You're saving money on the foundation and paying for the goodies while I paid out for the base and am skimping on the add-ons haha.

Do you tend to use the single arm, or both arms together more often?

Yeah if I hadn't spent so much over the last 6 months, I would have got the movcam rig too!
TBH, I think I'll only use the one arm most of the time.

Thank you for these images, Paul. Very helpful... I didn't know that the EVF holder had this little attachment, as there is no mention of it on the Ikancorp website that I can see.

Regarding the issue of the EVF platform blocking I/O ports: originally I wasn't too concerned about losing the SDI I/O, but I can't even be sure I can adapt a 1/4" TRS to 1/8" TRS at a right angle and still have enough clearance (between EVF plate and 7Q) to monitor audio with a quality set of 'phones. The more I think about it, the more I feel like it's just the wrong tool for the job (obviously) and I can't force it to do something it was not designed to do and expect great results :(

I envy everyone here that can just order this part from that distributor as required, so long as it fits your budget. I'm just so damn limited by where I can source from (and the manufacturers available), it's giving me gray's trying to put this friggin rig together with so few options.

Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and Tilta will send me a magic arm that will magically hold its position without doing the floppy chicken on me :/
