MOV Files into FC Studio

Hello I am trying to edit MOV files from the internet. I am loading the files into my computer from a website that is having an editing contest. I can get all the files into my computer and into FC Studio. The problem I am having is when the files are edited onto the time line I have to render each clip individually. Which slows everything down. I feel like there should be a better way. Am I using the wrong Codec? I'm still kind of new at this so any intelligent advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance, John

If I had to guess, the files you're grabbing from the internet are h264 or something else that is heavily compressed. You'll want to convert these to a format that is Final Cut friendly.

Simply throw them into Compressor, choose your preset, and click submit. Depending on how much footage you have and the power of the computer, you could be in for a wait.

Without knowing what kind of source footage you're working with, it's hard to recommend a codec. But ProRes is usually a good way to go.

Yes it is H264. I have the mac pro so I am pretty good on speed. Each file is under 10 mins of footage. I'm still a little green on Compressor so which settings would you choose. I see the Pro Res in your post and will try that but are there any others. I will have to resubmit the entire edit back online when done editing. I thought pro res made the file larger-not sure though. Thanks again. John

Converting to ProRes will make your files larger. You'll find editing it much less painful though.

After your edit is done, you can compress your final back to h264 for delivery.

Are these files copyrighted?

If so, contact the original poster and ask for the original footage.

If not, then convert them to an editing format.
