Mouth-opening effect (like Matrix / Aliens)?

It's a nightmare scene and I'm looking to create an effect were the actor opens her mouth and slime/skin sticks between her lips and follows with it...


Any advice on making this simple on set?
 
I believe they used egg whites for the slime on the aliens mouth. That might be too disgusting for an actor though. A quick thought may be to experiment with water and corn starch. I know you can make home made slime that way. And it can be colored with food coloring. (Haven't tried it though.)
