FS5: Mounting the FS5 grip to gimbal bar

Hello,

I'm looking to relocate my Fs5 grip to my Ronin-M top bar. Best case scenario is that I can use it to bear weight and also get a LANC extender so I can change settings without fiddling with the camera. This would allow me to do things like walk inbetween indoor and outdoor while changing the variable ND filter without touching the actual body.

There's two current ways that may theoretically work, but there's too many pieces for my taste.

One:
Accesory mount: http://store.dji.com/product/ronin-m-monitor-accessory-mount?from=related_products

which is mounted to

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1100211-REG/lanparte_src_01_single_rod_clamp.html (this would be point of failure, I despise those screw connectors)

Which holds a 15mm rod where we finally mount it to the Zancuto piece:

Two:
Taking the side grip off of the ronin (like so: http://imgur.com/7uspwLT) and somehow connecting that rod the grip was on to the zancuto piece. That rod is 20mm in diameter, would a 19mm female piece (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981906-REG/cavision_rhc19_15_19mm_to_15mm_single.html) fit it?

Option two definitely looks more attractive.

Does anyone else have any experience doing this?

Thanks.

I've been custom adapting FS7 grips to ARRI standard rosette for many DP's on the forum here and around the world. I don't have an FS5 grip here - but if you care to send me the pieces you want attached I can make you a professional fix and turn it around in 1-2 days.

Cost approx $150

Have you seen this: http://woodencamera.com/Gimbal-ARRI-Rosette-25mm-1-inch.html

I've used it to relocate a C100 handle on the Ronin and it is awesome. If you could adapt the fs5 handle to a rosette mount, it could work well.

Definitely looks like something I could use. However, this piece still requires an additional part from the handlebar to the grip.

Do you mean me sending you my FS5 grip so you can custom fit it? My ideal set up is having the grip on a rosette and extender like the zacuto piece in my original post. The FS5 connection on the body is wonky so you'd need an extra adapter like the zacuto piece has in its package.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm thinking these three items together:

http://woodencamera.com/Gimbal-ARRI-Rosette-25mm-1-inch.html
http://www.vocas.com/accessories/handgrip-rosette-adapter-for-sony-pxw-fs5
http://www.vocas.com/accessories/body-rosette-adapter-for-sony-pxw-fs5

This way you can quickly detach the handle from the Ronin to the body of the FS5.

Thoughts?

It looks like you would only need the top two items?

As I understand it, the wooden camera piece would go on the top bar, and the Handgrip Rosette Adapter will allow the grip to attach directly to it. Then of course the third piece would go right on the body so no pieces would come on or off.

Definitely looks like the most elegant solution, although it would be handy to throw in an extension arm.

I make an FS7 Sony grip adaptor called the Sony Crony here in hot New Orleans. It's a great fix and it's well designed. I generally like
Vocas but their FS5 adaptor is forged alumium hirth gears and that does not hold up well in field use conditions. Ask any rental house. My Sony Crony adaptor is made with stainless steel ARRI rosette and a solid brass stud. Cost is $150, shipped. If your in a hurry just send me your grip and I'll send it right back with the Crony installed on it.
