Mounting one of these on a C stand, or any 5/8" stud

It does look like there is some sort of adapter on there. If you can get it off it should slip neatly onto the top of a c-stand. You could always use the screw on the side (if yours has one) to secure it to the stand or you'll have to get a knob as you suggest.

That's a junior pin on that fixture. Some junior pins are hollow and you can slide it onto a normal 5/8" stud. If not, you can get a baby-to-junior adapter.

Typically though, junior-pin fixtures are that way because they're heavier than will comfortably fit on a stand that uses a 5/8" pin.

You need a TVMP which would allow for use of a Junior stand or a Baby stand:

And yeah, it's possible the hole there might be 5/8" or close to it.

Bingo. TVMP = TV to motion picture or yoke to stand adapter. The ID of the TVMP is 5/8" for a baby spud and the OD is 1 1/8" the size of a junior receiver.

WRT whether it's safe on a C-stand, if it's a 2K it's iffy. Better to put it on a beefy baby if you don't have a junior or combo stand. if it's a 1K you're fine on a C-stand.

I have a 2k mole and I was able to get it in a gobo head. I would recommend getting the proper adapters though. I bought the light Saturday night before a Sunday shoot and film tools (local shop) was closed so I didn't have much of a choice in the matter. But from experience, in a pinch, you can crank that down in a gobo head, but if you have the time get the proper parts.

Just keep in mind that there is a reason these light yokes are fitted with a junior spud and not a baby receiver - they are likely too heavy for something like a baby aluminum kit stand.

If not, you can get a baby-to-junior adapter.

Eek, does that exist? Never seen one before, but I hope not.

If the light is lightweight enough for a babystand, while you could get a TVMP, I feel like you'd have to do some strange things to get it to fit on there. Instead I would just try and go through mole and get a similarly sized yoke that has that correct 5/8" hole for your c-stand and just swap it out.

I'm thinking I'll probably just get a 6" 2K as opposed to this one. The head for one of those is half as heavy at only 10.5 lbs. I'll take a slight loss in output over juryrigging something together, possibly for an unsafe combination.

You probably know that 2Ks require 20A circuits, which are far less common than 15A circuits.

I know. I'm planning on running it into an outlet in the kitchen (they almost always have 20A breakers if I'm not mistaken) of wherever I'm shooting at and turning off the fridge while it's in use, and I'll probably pick up a 1.5K globe as well for when obtaining a 20A circuit simply isn't possible.

Dude, don't put a giant 10" or more fresnel on baby gear, not even a c-stand. Besides the weight issue, you know hot HOT those things get??!?!

That's a lot of light - if you're not at a point where buying a junior stand is feasible, you may not really need a 2K (that big lens is so pretty though...)

By the way, shop wisely for TVMP adapters... matthews has a thumbscrew that needs pliers or a wrench to loosen or tighten - Avengers (same $$) have a nice phat handle.

Yes, I worked with a very similar model a week and a half ago.

Not getting this one, probably going for the 6" version instead. Like I said, that seems like the much safer way to go. For now, what I'd like it for is to light up the interior of a house, mainly a particular room, so that I can do a couple day-for-night shots from the outside. Competition with the sun would definitely require lots of light, maybe even more than this.

I have some demo Mole hot 2k, Solarspot 1k and baby-baby hot 1ks if you're in the market. Basically unused, save for a few in-store demos for prospective customers. We're even throwing in two free CYV 1k lamps with the hot 2k so you can run it just about anywhere.

PM me if you're interested.

Right. Can't believe how cheesy that thumbscrew is.

Finally broke down and bought like six of the correct size T-handles from film tools. I've got a lot of theatrical lights I've converted to stands over the years. $30 or so to get the TVMPs up to Avenger quality. Live & learn... (OK, I started buying tungsten for fashion stills before Avenger started updating Matthews designs...)
