Mounting lavaier RX pack to camera / tripod

Velcro...could use it almost anywhere, even straight onto the tripod legs (although sometimes having a vertical baseplate of some sort attached on the leg through some sort of accessory like above is better to have as a platform).

I concur.. Velcro. which is semi-permanent. It can be removed at some point, even If it has been on a long time (years), heat it with a hair drier makes is easier to peel off. When gooey residue is left behind, Goo Gone Pro can devolve it to wipe off.

I don't think velcro isn't good for this application.

I'd use a small magic arm like the one you posted but get one the right attachment end, male threads or hotshoe. Although looking at the picture of the receiver I'm doesn't look like a hotshoe attachment I'm use to. If you want to get fancy you could add a mini quick release.

FK has the industry not got thier sh_t together yet?

You need a plate that you can put the lav on. The plate needs a couple of 1/4 holes.

The 1/4 holes go to many grip options.

I dont like velcro because usually the backing glue is usually weaker than the hook/eye side.

Learn cad, draw it get it laser cut.. thats what Id do.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

FWIW the receivers are Sennheiser G4's. Not sure if that changes what people might suggest.

How about a small plate that attaches to the camera's hot shoe, 1/4-20 mount on a cage/plate, or some such. You can use elastic or a touch of velcro on the RX and plate and then keep the camera velcro-free. Here are a few options: https://www.trewaudio.com/product-c...ssories/wireless-accessories-camera-mounting/

The only issue with this is we almost always need to mount TWO receivers. Also, the hot shoe is taken up by the audio interface unit (the cameras are generally Panasonic S1H). We have cages with an extra cold shoe, but again the issue is fitting two RX units on things.

It's an expensive fix. the Rode Go receiver supports two transmitters...

Does anyone have good suggestions or solutions for mounting lavalier receiver packs to a tripod?

Over the years I've had the same question and over the years came up with a variety of different solutions. The ones below have proved to be simple, flexible, solid, reliable and allow a variety of mounting positions. Never had a failure... so far! :)

Thanks Chris! The phone holder option looks promising.

Peter: we're already in the Sennheiser ecosystem on multiple lavs (and more if you count the main unit) so Rode isn't an option, most likely. Although the new Rode Wireless Pro is very tempting just for my own work...

Oh I thought when you said Rx you were referring to Rode. What brand and model are you talking about?

We're using Sennheiser G4s. I was using RX as shorthand for the receivers, but maybe that's not industry standard or only applies to Rode.

I don't have a Senny here to try with the phone clamp, but I'm pretty sure it would work well. The contraction spring in the Manfrotto phone clamp is surprisingly strong. Requires a bit of energy to spread it apart to insert your phone or RX. I've often used two of them for two receivers. I have also mounted them on the pan bar of tripods and C stands, so lots of flexibility with them.

Did your G4 kit not come with a CA2 Shoemount Adapter? You could order another one, although it would be nice if they offered an aluminum version.

I recommend mounting the receiver onto the pan arm, that way you don't have to worry about the cable getting wrapped around the tripod as you pan.

A super clamp will work, but a lighter more compact options is to use a Rubber-Insulated Clamp, Socket Cap Screw, and cold shoe mount.

I use a similar setup with a mini Arca QR clamp to mount an audio recorder or preamp to my tripod pan arm.

I've always mounted my wireless RX to my camera, with velro at first, but switched to a cold shoe mount, as adhesive velco doesn't hold up in really hot humid environments.

The issue with mounting to a cold shoe is (1) we have to mount 2 RX units and (2) the cold shoes / hot shoe are taken up by other kit (audio unit and monitor).

We're going to try velcro to see how it goes, and then maybe move to the Manfrotto cellphone holder + magic arm combo if the velcro isn't to our liking.

Once you use velco you won't bother with anything else.

Crude but this is what everyone used to use way before all of the accessory trinkets started coming out.

One network I PA'd for had crates filled with G2s and all had velcro on them which is where I first saw this in like 2007/8.
