FS7: Mounting a Mix Pre-D?

Anyone have any ideas of a good way to mount a Mix Pre-D to the fs7? Right now I temporarily have it on the front hotshoe. The positioning is ok but its not as secure as I would like and makes the camera top heavy. I have the top mount for the mixer but it still seems ackward to mount anywhere and hard to secure tightly. I would also like to avoid spending hundreds of dollars on cheese plates and cages if possible.

if you have a battery plate off the back, many of them have mounting points for BEC plates. These are common with ENG shooters but used with narrative style operators as well. Here's an example below. You take off the mounting bits on the black plate, put industrial velcro on them and put your SD two channel mixer on it with another piece of velcro.

The anton bauer hotswap devices has a curled lip that has mounting points for a BEC plate, as an example.

If the approach suits you, you'll have to hunt around for the solution that meets your needs and price point.

Another approach would be to find an existing mounting point and some light thin angled piece of metal that would hang the unit off the non-operator side of the camera towards the rear of the camera.

Your camera came with a mounting bracket that is designed for the Sony video transmitter nobody uses but the plate has a flat surface perfect for adhering Velcro. It screws securely to the dumb side of the camera. I use mine to mount a Nano Flash, as well as other accessories. Puts devices where you need them but also out of the way. I also have the extension back and use Anton style batteries. All my batteries have Velcro. That's where I mount my Zaxcom audio hop. I also use a short Cine Arm mounted on the handles 1/4 20 hole. That allows me to mount my Odyssey. I can then either have the Odyssey flat against the camera for director/producer viewing or position it for my viewing.

If you have the mounting bracket on the top of the mix pre D then what about mount it upside down and screw the 1/4 screw of the mounting bracket into the 1/4 screw hole on the back of the handle? Its a bit closer to the XLR port also more secure too.

Can I ask whats your reason for using a Mixpre instead of the inbuild xlr preamp? Will that be confusing for the phantom power?

Thanks

Thanks for the solutions everyone. I'm going to work on some more and see what works best. I prefer to avoid velcro or adjustable solutions since it could throw off a steadicam if adjusted after static balancing. Ideally I would mount the mixer closer to the front of the camera since the camera is already so back heavy with the V-Mount.

Lucas, I'm using the Mix Pre-D for it's superior Preamps and great limiters. Really easy to calibrate levels using the tone generator of the mix Pre-D. XLR Line outputs from the Mix Pre-D into the cameras inputs is really clean. Also love the tactile feel of the sounds devices pots as apposed to the stumpy knobs on the FS7 and I get to see realtime adjustments of levels by monitoring off of the mixer.
