Motor noise with shotgun mic

I use my DVX mainly for outdoor hunting and fishing shoots. I have been experiencing motor noise or hum transferred through my shotgun mic (rode videomic, yes I know upgrade to a better one). My question is this, even if I upgrade to a Sennhieser with a quality shock mount , will I still get the motor noise and the hum when using the zoom motor? I would like to be able to take the mic off altogether, but it is not feasible for what I am using the camera for.

Does anyone have experience with camera mounted shotgun mics.?

You will pretty much always get that noise with the microphone attached the camera. It will be well within the pickup pattern of the mic.

Better mics may (or may not) have tighter patterns, but with the motor so close, it'll still be in there. Only way to avoid it is get it off the camera.

I wonder if I mount a cold shoe to my tree arm and mount the mic on the arm rather than on the camera if it will quell some of the noise? I suppose it depends on how far from the camera I mount it..........but I was under the impression that the noise was being transmitted through the mount and not the actual mic pattern picking up the noise???????

No doubt that mount would take care of any noises........the problem is it would be far too bulky for my application........I'm gonna try an Azden SGM2x with the Azden mount and see if that solves my problem........Thanks for the advise:thumbup:
