Motion

I had to whip together a demo reel for the lead in my next project.. she doesn't have a lot of footage handy, as most of it is on VHS and she isn't an 'actor' so to speak.. so I had to work with some really low quality stuff from youtube, and a few things she shot of herself in her apartment.

To jazz it up and try and take the retina burn away a little, I used motion to do the opener and closer..

take a look here:

First time I've ever used Motion for anything.. really neat program.. and easy to use.. a little buggy.. (crashed twice while using it) but sure made this look cooler..

enjoy.

Looks good, reminds me of the Suretarget plug-in for After Effects.

Any interest in putting some kind of background color/gradient in, or do you prefer it black?

I wouldn't change the song. The song is very popular, and very good. Obviously the voice doesn't annoy a good amount of people, especially not the type of people I would assume would be needing a dancer's reel.

I think there are portions of the song that work well with the demo, others not so much.

For instance, I really like when the beat kicks in in the first city/silhouette shot. The intro audio I find annoying, but don't take my opinion with too much merit, as I am not the target audience. There are also some glaring bad audio edits you might want to finesse.

On a visual level (which I think this is why you posted here) I don't think ending the piece with that FCP "bad TV" filter is the best way to wrap this demo up. Perhaps have the shot of her start in static, but then become crystal clear so she ultimately looks good.

Probably right..

I had to edit this the night before I was to submit it (read: midnight to 4:30am editing).. I think it does it's job well ... but definitely room for improvment in some of the editing.. then again I had such limited footage to work with.. I don't how much more I could have done..

About the TV filter thing.. they have a nice real photo included with the reel, so I don't think it's much of a concern for the people watching..

Things seem cooler when you are exhausted though..
