GH4 Motion Mount for M43?

We are having a great time with our GH4, the footage is amazing but one thing that we dont like is the rolling shutter on really long tele shots. RED has the motion mount which from what we have seen is just epic. Can something like this be done for the Mirror-less cameras out there today? Would be really nice to have a mount that would allow Global shutter and ND. Not a camera maker so I dont know the amount of work it would take but got me to thinking.

Not sure how the Motion mount gives the RED camera simulated global shutter capabilities. It is completely possible, that since it is also a RED product, that it is communicating with the camera in a way that it knows detailed exposure information coming from the sensor.

The ND filter thing can be mimicked quite easily, mechanically or electronically, but I don't know about the global shutter part. You could check out the HolyManta VND, which is an EF to M43 adapter with a VND built into it. Something similar could be built with electrochromic glass, as you alter the voltage, it either tints more or tints less.

On the rolling shutter issue, is it the wind that is effecting it? Maybe build some baffling around the camera, another option is to find a vibration damping mount.

Im just talking in general if it can be done to make these sensors global with something like a Motion Mount. Mabye Metebones could make one that would do it.

The motion mount is based on Tessive's filter, which worked with any camera with shutter sync or genlock.

Unfortunately the GH4 does not have shutter sync or genlock.

Perhaps it is possible by synchronizing with the timing signal of the analog video out.

I keep asking the manufacturers to add genlock or shutter sync to their cheaper cameras everytime I'm at Cinegear (admittedly that's because I actually want to have arrays of cameras in sync for vfx / stereo purposes) so am doing my part :)

Next time you see a camera manufacturer rep, let them know it's a feature you'd like and potentially be prepared to pay a little more for.

As for the LCD shutter technology... well, if they can make $50 LCD shutter glasses for stereo that sync at 120hz, I would imagine that this sort of thing could be made a lot cheaper if mass produced. It's a chicken and egg situation though: only a handful of expensive cameras have genlock, so they're only targeting that market.
