motion control rig for time lapse

Hey there, I was looking into getting a rig to achieve some panning time lapses and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on where to get one for a reasonable price. I've researched them quite a bit and it seems they are difficult to make yourself.

Also, I need to buy a dv camera to use as a deck for my dvx, what camera do you guys recommend.

I'm really happy with a typical little Sony miniDV from Best Buy and it takes great shots too. Most little miniDV cams will work, just be sure to check the DV connection, some of the little Panny's have the 4 pin DV Firewire connection *behind the battery* so they have to be plugged into the wall to capture.
