Most Underrated/Overrated Actor(s)

Gary Oldman-underated, an amazing character actor who recently only gets bit parts, probably because he's not a prettyboy.

I think Jim Carrey is an underrated actor. People think that he is good only for idiotic comedies, but I think he is totally brilliant. Remember Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... I think we can see a lot out of him in serious roles...

Tom Cruise is overrated, although he's good in Jerry Maguire.

Scarlett Johansson is cute but greatly overrated.

Sophie Marceau is extremely cute and a good actress, but yet - underrated.

Huh? I was just being facetious. Unless you're sincerely asking me. To which I will reply: I don't know, a lot?

I know you were. It sounded like you had no clue that he did that for charity, or that his line of market products has raised over $200 million dollars for charities like his Hole In The Wall Gang, a camp he started 20 years ago for sick children.

He has also given $10 million to a college for a scholarship fund, and he established a cash award for people who defend the first ammendment in it's relation to the written word.

Nevermind as an actor...this guy is underrated as a human being.

Paul Newman in Nobody's Fool - such a great small understated movie. I think as he got older he just kept getting better -- or a least he played the old guy roles to the max. HBO's Empire Falls - he steals every scene he's in. Plus he's like 114 years old....only joking I know he's only 107.

Now that's a good movie .

James Spader always struck me as underrated. Even doing teen stuff, he had a certain something.

Mark Dacascos (yes I'm serious). Not exactly saying he's a brilliant actor, I just think he should have had a much bigger career. Underutilized would be the right word.

OVERRATED:

Sam Jackson
Nic Cage
John Travolta
Will Smith

While some of them may not be ranked highly on the act-o-meter, they are all overrated.

Disagree !

While they may not pick the deepest roles; each of these actors are the total real deal.

I just wish they'd do more creative projects in contrast to the usual Hollywood Candy they choose; must be the payday

Idk if I can name anyone for either...most people I thought of for both ended up having a good performance sometime in their life. I dont want to put a label on someone like that...

For instance something I hear alot is Adam Sandler, I blame the kinds of movies he does but he obviously does them because its fun. Then take a movie like "Reign Over Me," where he does an incredible job. Idk its just too hard to call. :P

The kids from Superbad.

Michael Cera really is good. He was classic as Geroge Michael on Arrested Development.

A friend of mine mentioned he had an awkward moment at the TIFF when someone asked him if he took the GOTrain from Brampton that night to the screening of Juno, which he and Jason Bateman are in.

He got all defensive and started to explain how he was staying in a hotel downtown...but then Jason Bateman stepped in and said he didn't take the train, but his parents did.

Apparently that broke the tension...but it was a stuipid question to begin with.
