Most portable 10bit recorder???

If the Samurai turns out to be reliable it sounds like a winner to me. Sounds like the smallest, cheapest, least power draw and simplest to operate which can be a big advantage. Fewer choices but only the ones I need and simpler menus = fewer mistakes to make. I like the idea of SSD's also.
Should have built this last year instead of the Ninja.

I was told Samurai is landing in TO around 18th...

I think no external recorder is perfect. The Ki Pro mini has gone on about 13 shoots with me - and while I"m not a fan of its power consumption - it's been pretty reliable. I have no question that the PIX 240 and the Samurai will get there. It all takes time to make a unit work well. But for now, I soldier on with the KPM and hope for the firmware update.

Anyone knows what's the power consumption of the Hyperdeck shuttle? Can't find that info anywhere :(

KiPro Quad is pretty impressive unit. While touted for 4K workflow and live 4K ingest via Thunderbolt, it takes full advantage of the dual link 444 of the F3.

So far, it is the lowest priced dual link device on the market.

For those interested and who did not see it at NAB, it is about 50% bigger than the KiPro Mini but nothing that I would consider excessive in size and weight.

Consider the Pix 240

Consider the Pix 240

Consider the Pix 240. It quite happily sits on top of the F3 (10bit, ProRes, 422, 220Mbps)
I power it and the F3 with a Swit battery.

I'm still desperately trying to find the power consumption of the Hyperdeck. I've tried to contact black magic design with no luck :( I need the info to not overload my battery plates power tap (limit is 50w). I'm planning to run F3, tv logic 5.6 and the shuttle from the same single tap through splitter. I hope someone can help :)

Is the storage for the Quad proprietary or is it like the Pix where you buy an enclosure and add your own drive? Have they released pricing for it?

I hope that the Ki Pro Quad doesn't eat batteries for breakfast like the Ki Pro Mini and that it doesn't "auto-shutoff" so easily. That's my dreams. I wish the Gemini RAW would come down in price to match the Quad - and then it would be no contest - Gemini RAW! However the debayer feature looks amazing - does that work with red footage to speed up the post on it?

p.s. I'm loving the Samurai. I own two of them. Since the last firmware update - I've had zero issues in the field. And I shot in the swamps of Louisiana with them.
