Most Expensive Lens...

That lens was commissioned and bought by an emir, if I remember right.

I like the reverse shot of it with a Leica M8 sitting inside the lens barrel :)

In africa children are dying because of nothing to eat , oh... i know, lets just build 2 million dollar lens :).Love this world.

If I bought an ostentatious lens, my goal would not be to solve the problems of others. I would have bought it for me and me alone.

If this dude's lens truly just sits in a museum of sorts, then he is just showing off his bank; but if it serves a purpose for him, then I don't see how someone can point a finger and say "How dare you? Children are starving..."

One should be able to do what one wishes with one's money. Of course, there's the supposition that this African prince might have not lifted a finger to earn his money...but that's another story.

i dont want to go into that, but i doubt that this lens would paid for itself after 10 years of work with photographer. With 2 millions He could sponsor at least 20 doctors lives to give them money to live and work in africa healing and taking care of sick people.Anyway,it was disturbing to me and im in that kind of mood... doesnt matter, i know that justice is just made-up word to make some people feel better.

I'm just saying there are probably many uses for a lens this long, including scientific and artistic. That's enough for me! Now it's been done, we the human race have working plans to make a decent sized and decently fast 1600mm lens. It has pioneered optical technology and we are further for it. Not to shabby. If the price was reflective of a fact it was made from gold, jewel encrusted, and was made to photograph debutante's sweet sixteen... now that would bother me.

Anyway, back to monster lenses!

Justice exists. It is undeniable. The execution of justice and its interpretation in a judicial system is another thing. Is justice asking someone who's filthy rich to sponsor the livelihoods of 20 doctors he doesn't know to benefit some people in Africa he will never know?

We're talking about lenses here, anyway, which may be used to support one person's livelihood - the shooter - but can also be used for pure enjoyment. And some people have the financial clout to take their enjoyment as far and as a big as they can dream.

Is justice to be born on oild fields in Arabian country and getting rich only because you was lucky and land is yours + you had rich father ?He wont be able to spend family fortune throught his lifetime anyway.
I dont want to go into that.
People giving money to charities all the time,it goes to people they will never know probably.
Justice doesnt exist ,its however executed sometimes by human beings.Dont ruin this thread guys.If it bothers someone then how about making a movie about this ?

I don't think we're ruining the thread. What life expectancy did you have in mind for a thread about a giant piece of glass, anyway? To that, we are still on topic because we are speculating about the life of the commissioner of the lens and the implications of its price tag.

And I think you confused justice and luck. And I already mentioned how being born into money is outside the topic I was discussing.

:)
