Most disturbing movies you've seen?

Nothing to do with the religious aspects of the movie...but Passion of the Christ for the sheer brutality brought against one individual. Disturbed me.

You guys are always great at bringing up obscure movies.
Context: I was nine yeazrs old and my folks let me go to the midnight horror movie at the theater 3 blocks away.

The movie was "Lighthouse At The Edge Of The World."
There was a scene where pirates had landed on an island, and proceded to kill the inhabitants. Kirk Douglas (main charactor) watched through a telescope as one of his friends had their feet tied to a rope, hoisted in the air, and swung back and forth until they were impaled on a sword. At 9 years old, it stuck with me for a while.

J Patnaude

That midget from twin peaks that spoke backwards freaked me out.

I really haven't yet watched a movie that disturbed me. Only a few scenes. One in Clock Work Orange and the other these two fellas were in,

one of my all time favorites !

Hands down, the "Faces of Death" series. Seeing folks bite the big one is still something you don't see on even the most disturbing reality series. Not to mention the scene where they beat the monkey's head to get to the brains.

I also vote for Requiem for a Dream. The last 15 minutes you feel like you're being punished by watching it. And also Dead Ringers.

Island Of Death, Salo, Aftermath, Necromantik 2, Emmanuelle In America, Salon Kitty, In A Glass Cage, Irreversible, Henry:Portrait Of A Serial Killer, August Undergorund Mordum, Make Them Die Slowly

I guarantee nausea and discomfort while watching these films.

Enjoy!

Just watched one last night which has just become my new champ for most disturbing film. I cringed the entire film...

Greg Araki's "Mysterious Skin"

By far this is Araki's best work. It's an excellent film with a whole lot of depth, but man it left me fairly sick to the stomach and mind afterward, mostly that **** like this happens in real life.

Another film that hasn't been mentioned yet is "Gummo". The guy that wrote "Kids" directed this one. It's gross, but I'm on the fence on whether i'm disturbed because it's so "icky" for lack of a better word, or that I'm pissed that **** like this gets distribution!

Pretty well anything by Miike. He may be the master of good disturbing films. Iichi is just a plain old classic film. It's a heck of a ride. Funny as hell. Another film I really liked of his is "Gozu".

There's a French Art Horror Film called "Trouble Everyday". It has quite possibly the most disturbing scene I've ever witnessed in a film... and it involves good old Vincent Gallo, taking it to another level.

Lastly "Dogville" by Lars Von Trier. It's such a unique film. Ya gotta give it chance, but by the end the story and the awfulness sucks you in so much that you forget about the "surroundings".

Requiem For A Dream unhinged me for a few days after watching it.Even though I recognise its brilliance I could not bring myself to watch it again.I saw it a couple of years ago and it still gives me the creeps. But if any of my kids are showing signs of involvement in controlled substances it will be mandatory viewing!

I have a friend that is a EMT and a Firefighter and he told me he went to see SAW II and he said some of the stuff in that movie grossed him out and that is coming from a guy that sees all kinds of crazy stuff daily! I havent gone to see the movie yet.

Bertolucci's "Luna". I can't get the picture of a young boy, addicted to heroin and unable to find a syringe, jabbing a dinner fork into his arm...

It gets even more freaky from there...

Movies have never disturbed me. I feel kinda bad about it. But then again, I'm pretty sure I've only seen a couple of movies on everyone's lists.

Audition-It was creepy (especially the bag thing) and the climax was pretty hard, but I still didn't find it deeply disturbing.

Requiem-It was another one that was really sad, but didn't have lasting significance on me. I mean, i don't wanna do drugs, but I wasn't like shocked and rattled. The ending was pretty haunting though.

I think the ones that will really disturb me won't come on an emotional level but will just have to be extremely violent aand rude. For example, August Underground and Cannibal Holocaust probably would **** me up for a couple of days. I feel bad that I can't get emotionally distraught by movies like requiem, but I guess that's just how it works for some.

Irreversible sounds messed up too. That'd probably screw me up for several days though.

I seem to remember that 8mm was disturbing but it's been a long time since I saw it so I can't really remember for sure. Guess I'll have to check it out again and see.

Here are some movies that disturbed me:

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Trolls
Crossroads starring Britney Spears - Funny story, I went to see this at a cheap $2 theatre as a joke with my sister. We went in and took a seat. The place was filled with all these little kids (imagine that). This one kid comes running down the aisle with popcorn and a soft drink, trips, and the popcorn and cola looks like a mushroom cloud explosion. It seemed like it all happened in slow motion. If that wasn't hilarious enough, these other kids come over and start eating the popcorn off the floor! I'm glad the kid didn't get hurt. I could not quit laughing. The funniest part to me was how the kids eating the popcorn off the floor was like society. If you fall down; nobody gives a crap. They'll just eat your popcorn. When the movie started, and britney spears horrific acting sobered me up pretty quickly. We bolted. Seeing the events that took place earlier was worth the price of admission.

Ok, more disturbing movies

The Town that Dreaded Sundown - The dude kills some people with a trombone, now that is disturbing.

Deliverance - Boy you gotta purdy mouth
Pet Cemetary - disturbed me greatly as a kid

I'm not sure I've actually ever seen the whole movie but the book disturbed the hell out of me.

dunno about disturbing because these are my favourite kind of movies, but if we're talking about films that stay with you because of their content or tone...

Funny Games
The Piano teacher
Irreversable
Seul contre tous
das experiment
requiem for a dream
wolf creek
van helsing (the most disturbing of them all)

If we're going into the territory not really disturbing, but disturbingly bad movies, I would like to mention Terror Toons.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0324213/board/nest/2223066

I certainly learned a lesson from this one: Never rent straight-to-video horror flicks.

Althought there really is something disturbing about a ten year old character being portrayed (badly, I might at) by giant-chested softcore porn star... but not really that disturbing because... Well, at least she was nice to look at... but then you realize she's supposed to be playing a ten year-old, and.... It's kinda disturbing, yeah.
