Mosiac VAF filter

Anyone used one?

I had a bad experience with an interview recently where moiré on the talents jacket wrecked the interview so don't want it to happen again. I believe that using one softens the image slightly has anyone tested this or can confirm it?

Worth getting?

Thanks

I have one, and it will help you with the moire patterns. You can't use it for stills only for video, so if you need to switch often between then it's not convenient.
Definitely it a good thing to have in the bag for video.

Sharpness stays the same.

It should actually help resolution a bit b/c the codec won't be wasting space compressing artifacts that shouldn't be there to begin with.

I have heard that the filter prevents zooms from staying parafocal. So you have to use a zooom like a variable focal length prime.

i would worry about using one on my d600. I find it quite often drops out of live view and thus drops the mirror. dealing with the moire on the other hand is a problem all to itself.

Apparently having the filter in when the mirror drops can't injure in filter or the mirror.

Thats good to know. It really would make sense because the filter would just hold the mirror up when it tried to drop. Leaving you with no damage. I wonder if the camera would have an error because of that though. Either way it may be worth it in order to cut down that moire

The one thing that I was surprised (and relieved) to hear is that the filter doesn't compromise the sharpness of the image.

The footage I saw looked a little softer with the filter on, as I expected. Not too bad though. And it may not be a definitive result...
