Most quotable PullQuote of The year! I will incorporate it with attribution into my signature if I may !
Or as I like to put it... sooner or later, everything will end up on a 5"-10" tablet at 1080p or yikes- Google Glass HUD !
I think you may need a different sample group.I have a couple of friends going to IBC to talk about different aspects of CGI work. I just had to mention to them this "filmic motion"-thing that cameramen obsess and they just laughed. So CGI guys don't really see a difference with motion blurs. Except for rolling shutter.
When I said watch a soap opera I meant that's how a film that is shot on a digital cam that doesn't render motion well looks to me.
I think this is a conversation where each side is beating their head against a brick wall.
People have been noticing the difference between digital 24p and film 24p for a while. I cannot put a finger on it. But it has never bothered me. And i like 60p in addition to 24p. Horses for courses.
I would like to actually do a test and have people guess which one is film, or digital and if its digital which? To me the fact people know it's digital they have a pre thought about it.
Why not? I bet I could do it rather easily. Control the scene to have absolutely limited dynamic range, and edit it in post to match the grain level between shots... shoot something that's mechanically reproducible so you don't have people acting differently one time to another... I would think it'd be pretty easy to come up with a scenario that would be able to isolate motion as the only real variable.I don't know that in such a test you could filter out all the other giveaways and just make it a test for motion.
