More playback problems when editing DV footage.

I have a laptop, Toshiba, pretty new, 2.8 ghz, 512 ram etc. with firewire and a DVX100a. I imported a whole buncha footage, stored it on my LaCie drive and edited it in Adobe Premiere. Now all was going fine, but now when I play it back or go to record it to tape or export it in any fashion, it's all jittery and hangs up and it sounds like my hard drive is cranking overtime just to keep up, it's so bad I can't evne playback in the workspace to see what I'm editing. I am at the end of my ropes here fellas, any help would be greatly appreciated. >:( >:(

Your specs are good. Pookies right, defragment your drive. It might help.

Also wouldn't hurt to do a virus scan and spyware check.

Questions:
--How big are the files?
--How full is the LaCie drive and how does it interface (firewire, USB 2.0)?
--Does it hang if you don't use preview when printing to tape?

No virii or whatever. It's a 150 gig LaCie connected through firewire...not overly large files as I have Adobe recognize the cuts, I opened a new link and pasted the like file in there and it works fine now....but still when exporting i have problems with it dropping sound... :-/ :'(
