Re: More Noir

Good stuff, can you post some of your lighting setups so we can see what you're up to?

Re: More Noir

Awesome. A light set-up (diagram) would be epic. I can just hear the 'noir' theme of sax and moody jazz.

Re: More Noir

The guy doing the original score is terrific. Music just makes these things cook and he's right on the nose with what he's done so far.

I'm working on the correct period type for the titles at the moment and finishing up my sound FX and Foley editing.

As far as lighting diagrams - I'm a seat of the pants guy who goes for minimal lighting, especially in this type of film. The interiors were filled with availible light coming in through the shaded windows. I used a high back light, a side edge light and very little fill from a white board. side light came from a Chimera with a diffused 350 on the backlight. (Arri lights)

The car was lit with the Chimira through the front windshield and a 650 diffused through the back window. streetlights gave me enough of a wash on the buildings behing to make it work. No fill light was used.

I never used more than four lights on any setup and usually just went with three.

Re: More Noir

Wow, those look fantastic. That's really, really impressive. Can't wait to see the final product. I'd love to hear more about how you made this project.

Re: More Noir

I love how you got actors that really seem like they are from the period. I can't wait to see more of this!!

Great site you found too John

Re: More Noir

Speaking of your Outland Thing, John.  For what it's worth, I went to your site and was impressed with your oceanside short.  Did you use the DVX?  It looks excellent.

And yes, a very cool link
