More Nikon D400 info that points to a soon release

Hope we'll see manual controls. Actually, I don't, because I am not in the mood of selling my D90 just yet...

I actually like the extra zoom & bokeh I get from my existing 35mm lenses, so I don't mind the DX sensor size and I can also live with riding the focus & locking exposure plus the 720P is great, but pleeeeease!! do something about the 5 minute shooting limit and overheating sensor because I wanna shoot all day with it!! :D

If Nikon comes up with a D400 with 1080p24 with full manual control for $1,999, the 5D is officially dead.

The D90 has been only an experiment. No matter how hard you try the video end result is not there. You can do a few tricks with it but the image is not there yet. Especially with the rolling shutter problems and the stair stteping. The compression has to improve greatly overall.

1080p 24fps and better compression is key. Full manual shutter and aperture would make it dandy. It would indeed give the Canon a black eye, until of course they release their next generation.

i think you mean "i" and not "you" in the first paragraph. it's certainly not a tool for everyone. :-) anyway, if you think there's any magic hidden in the numbers 1080 i think you're mistaken, same with the compression. the d90 shoots "weird" video because that's the best it can do right now, it's the sensor and electronics that can't do better, at 1080p and high bitrate it would most likely look almost exactly the same. numbers have very little to do with image quality, as evident by the 720p dvcpro hd cameras that completely crush both the d90 and the 5d when it comes to image sharpness.

I, you, the girl next door, the guy across the street, whoever, if you will. The only little thing we have to do then is add better sensor and electronics to the improvements list and voila the recipe would be complete! Not difficult for the brain to comprehend. The fact is that the next Nikon should be greatly improved over the D90, or like the D90, be a great home movies video camera. Shoot the kids, the pets, the garden, blah, blah, blah.

Again, one more time, for more professional results:

1080p
24 fps
Better compression and noise levels
IMPROVED SENSOR
IMPROVED ELECTRONICS

i've seen your frustration. whether it's incompetence or too high expectations i don't know, but it seems like you haven't gotten your camera to perform the way you wanted it to. i never touched your camera, neither did the girl next door (afaik). nuf said.

The only little thing we have to do then is add better sensor and electronics to the improvements list and voila the recipe would be complete
not add, replace. the number of pixels means almost nothing and a better sensor shooting 720p will always give better quality than an inferior one shooting 1080. and you're joking when you say "little thing", right?

I made the D90 investment back long time ago thru my photo work. Great stills. Video, great home movies. I apreciate my HVX even more now. Also made back the money from that investment. Long time ago.

The fact is that for the D90 movie mode to be a profesional tool it needs vast improvements, end of story.

The Mark II's picture quality is stunning, and that being canons first try at it on their DSLR's. If Nikon can match the Mark II in compression and quality that will be
a good step over the d90. However if they pass the mark II in that area, as well allowing full manual control , then the mark II will fall short.

So, if Nikon is going to release a D400 in the next week (or even month), it means they wouldn't have time in their development cicle to actually use the input we give them in this thread, making this discussion, well, pretty much pointless.

john, what i'm questioning is you reasoning that goes like this: "i, i, i, i, i, i, thus, you, you, you, it, it, it". i see a quantum leap somewhere in the middle, near the "thus", don't you?

sooo

sooo

so in you opinion if i have access to a great hd cam as it is should i wait and see what this new market of nikon dslrs is like and return the d90 that is coming on thrsday

If I bought a D90 today and in the near future the next generation was announced I would be mighty pissed. The problem is that nobody knows for sure if the D400 is coming out, how soon if it is and if indeed if it will have improved movie mode. If it was me I would wait a little longer. I already made my money back from the D90 but it took a few months. If the D400 comes out and is worth it I will definetely get it.

john, are you the john caballero on imdb? the *actor*? oh my god this explains so much.

Nope. That ain't me brother. You have me confused with somebody else.

BTW: Don't start the personal attacts. The MODS will be very angry at you!
