I was under the impression that my footage was extremely noisy and grainy. But when I viewed BARRY GREENS HVX BOOTCAMP i noticed that dvd was noisy as well. So now correct me if i am wrong, my television might be adding noise and grain that isnt there in the original content. Unfortunately my only means of viewing is my old 30 inch sd television.

It depends. If you burn your DVD at a good rate and make sure your DVD player is well connect, I find that most grain/noise disapears when you downrez to SD. Just recently I shot some stuff that was REALLY noisey because I didn't do a good job of controlling the light and was using Cinelike D. In my uncompressed stills at full rez, the noise was really disheartening. When I burned the footage on an SD DVD and played it on my TV, I was amazed how all the noise disapeared. I often compare my own footage burned on DVD with pro DVDs from 35mm films and usually I notice a lot less noise in my own, not cause the HVX200 can compare to 35mm but because when downrezed most noise disapears and, if you burn at a high bitrate (as opposed to about 3 mbs like most DVDs), then you can get great results.

If anything, a CRT should minimize the appearance of noise (when compared with LCD or plasma displays). You can turn down the chroma (color) and the sharpness on your TV to reduce the appearance of noise.
