More frame rates confirmed

On Panasonic's defperception.com blog, they've announced even more frame rates for the HVX. We listed 8 frame rates in the HVX Update article; to that list Panasonic has added rates of 20, 26, and 36 frames per second.

The list now stands at:
60, 48, 36, 32, 30, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 12

Thanks Barry-

Well, we'll know ALL framerates for sure in 5 days from Jan, won't we? - And also the chip's resolution that is for me the ONLY important point whether to buy or not to buy! (joking) :)

I wouldn't expect Jan to share with us just yet -

that's weird, defperception also now has this listed as a header,

Tosh Bilowski is a fictional character used to deliver real information from multiple sources at Panasonic in an entertaining way. We hope you find the information helpful and we look forward to hearing from you.

Where exactly on defperception.com do you read the framerates? - I can't find them...

I couldn't find them, either.

I thought Tosh Bilowski introduced himself as a Panasonic Broadcast technician working in Los Angeles? Now he's a fictional character? Which means questoins posted to Tosh are answered by a P.R. committee?

Between this blog with its changing story and direct questions about native imaging sensors that are repeatedly dodged, this is not doing much for Panasonic's credibility in my book.

I'd rather have real people like Jan to deal with. It's not clear what Panasonic is hoping to accomplish with this committee-crafted propaganda.

Jan's a wonderful person and truely "Queen of Panasonic", but whatever nitwit thought up this Tosh Bilowski thing should be canned.

You're right! And I'm not joking

But I do - as she 1) announced clearly that date and is more than intelligent enough to know that people in this forum will squeeze her that day as she is announcing it and 2) she says that we will "start cooking" from THEN, so it seems to me as if she wants to say: don't ask me too much about details - I don't want to tell you now, but one day I am willing to tell you ANY detail you want to know and that's AS SOON as I have a FINISHED camera in my hands and this will be on november 8th.

If this date wasn't guaranted, I'm sure, she wouldn't have announced it that clearly - instead she had said: "in november I will hold a finished camera in my hand for the first time and as soon as I do - I'll tell you and be open for declaring details.".

How can she hold back details she doesn't want to say or doesn't know yet for sure but announce a date that clearly? - Honestly, I even think that it is not impossible she has the camera one or two days earlier and gave us a "latest" date when she really MUST have that camera in her hands.

This number of frame rates is quickly approaching a number that is large enough to basically qualify as nearly "VariCam like" and should certainly allow for a lot of new creative uses. Each time a new feature is announced, I become more and more excited about this camera.

Thanks Barry for posing this information. Now if you could just accelerate time a little, I would be most grateful!

All these frame rates are great. Just one thing, with all these frame rates, wouldn't it have been easier (programatically speaking) to just put everything, from 1 to 60, instead of a select number of frame rates? Is there a technical limitation for this, of is it just they did not want to "overshadow" the Varicam?

Am I the only one who likes the idea of a blog? It's an easy way to get a lot of information in one place. If nothing else it'll cut down on the noob questions. The blog is marketing, big surprise. It's also a direct conduit to Panasonic. If nothing else, it says that they're listening to the customers suggestions. I'm just surpised at how much melodrama it's causing.

And I wouldn't judge credibility on a blog. I don't shoot with a blog, it's just a marketing tool. How about those variable framerates?

Damn. Can't wait to see one of these suckers modified by the reel-stream folks.
Because the HVX -- in particular, the pixel count of its CCDs -- is an unknown, Reel-Stream's Juan P. Pertierra is cautious about promising much better results with the HVX.

Very true. I'm not talking so much about increased dynamic range (which is great but I do realize that this is an unknown) but rather just flat out uncompressed HD footage in variable frame rates!

Why will it be?

careful now...it's NOT uncompressed HD. It's a DV type codec.

Great news on the additional frame rates. I was hoping to get 28 frames in there but that looks highly unlikely. Braveheart utilized several different frame rates but I particularly like the 28 frames. There was a smoothness to it that was very cinematic. Well if they don't incorporate 28 now, may be in the HVX200B. Overall I'm patiently waiting for this camera with script in hand.
