FS7: More footage from the FS7

Hi Doug,

Thanks for posting. I know you mentioned that the reds are a work in progress on Vimeo, but look very promising and very grazeable. I like what you got going.

I have a question for you.

1) Did you base your custom setting on Slog 2 or Slog 3?

2) Since you obviously have a lot of experience, do you think it's possible to accurately replicate the look from Canon - warming, reddish - in camera? I shoot some reality stuff here and there and lower end broadcast loves the C300 look so it would be nice to just hand off something similar baked in.

1) The camera doesn't offer S-LOG2 at this time, so I'm using S-LOG3 even though I don't like it as much as S-LOG2 on the F55. I am looking forward to getting S-LOG2 on the FS7 after a firmware update. I have been told by Sony that it is coming.

2) With both cameras in hand, a DSC chart, a vectorscope, a waveform monitor, a good video monitor, and a little time, it isn't that hard to come pretty close to replicating the look of another camera if you dumb down the better camera. But the problem is that after someone invests the time and effort into matching cameras, there is very little incentive for them to give the secret formula away to potential competitors. That where the "business" part of our business comes into play. So even if someone matches the C300 to the FS7, that doesn't mean they'll be talking about it publicly.

Hey Doug,

Since you are one of the few with both the F55 and FS7, how do you think the FS7 measures up to its big brother in terms of IQ?

Too early to say. Ask again in about a few weeks, and until the FS7 gets S-LOG2 it will never match the performance of the F55.
