"Moonlighting" Neo-noir 40-min HVX Feature

Here is a student film made with the HVX-200 and the Letus Extreme 35mm adapter back in 2009.

The film was made by the UCSC Film Production Coalition, as its long term project for 2009. Scripts are pitched to the club then voted on, along with principal positions like Director, Director of Photography, Editor, etc.

I wrote the film, and it is beautifully shot by DVXUser Doug Smith.

We shot it in 720/24p with a Nikon 50mm and 28mm. I think they were f/1.4 and f/2.8 respectively, but I'm not sure. This was awhile ago. Most of the night scenes (save for one) were shot without the adapter. We went back through the film and cropped it for 2.35:1 for its web debut. Doug joked that he was subconsciously framing for the format, since it cropped to it quite nicely.

This was before HDSLRs had really come on the scene so the night scenes all used a generator and lights. The film was made with an incredibly low-budget, and a lot of begging, (little) buying, borrowing, and stealing.
