Monitors with histogram/waveforms

Hi,

The more i delve into the intricacies of getting the right colours/exposure out of the FS i realise that the better monitoring the more chance i have.
So i'm wondering whether anyone can recommend any external field monitors with either separate RGB histograms or waveform display.

So far the smallhd doesn't seem to include either (although perhaps it's something that might be added), although it's a great resolution for focus.
Neither Ikan nor Marshall seem to offer field monitors with these features.

I believe TVLogic do offer one model with waveform.

Failing a field monitor like that, is there any way to pipe the HDMI out straight into FCP X to use the monitoring within there (which i quite like). I'm wondering whether some kind of thunderbolt adaptor from blackmagic could pipe a live image into FCP X?

How are others monitoring the FS?

cheers

I think the TVL has WF and the same res as the DP6

The only reason I didnt get it instead of the DP6 is the screen shade on the DP6 is a design icon

I can see the TVL one, has the waveform but seems to be luminance only, i'd like to check the RGB channel clipping, that's where i'm seeing some oddities at the moment. Unusual red spikes in highlights. I was sure i'd seem a field monitor that split the RGB up but i've not been able to find it. Perhaps just wishful thinking!

paul-

i am also interested in a reasonably priced external monitor that provides a wave form option.

a histogram is nice but limited.

perhaps the good folks at sony could somehow-magically-add the wave form monitor as part of the software update.

(a guy can wish!)

The one i was thinking of was the SWIT 1071F, which is a 7" monitor but has waveform, histograms and all sorts of goodies. The only downside is the price which is around £1100 from what i can tell. It's a little large too, being 7".

I like the histogram because it's clearer when showing RGB channels. The waveform is quite dense in terms of what it's showing for RGB as it's also showing positional information within the frame. But at the end of the day i'd take either.

Just have to have a hard think about that swit and imagine the weight/size implications when monitoring.

Anyone seen or used one?

Oh, and yes, some firmware changes would be nice! I believe it's running a linux core and so perhaps it's hackable. It would be lovely to see sony opening up the firmware but i'm sure hell would freeze over first!

cheers
