My situation is
A client has asked for a monitor for viewing purpose -only
I am a film retread and am still learning about how essential these monoitors are
for dv filmmaking
Can I get through a shot without a pro ntsc monitor?
How often does the ntsc monitor play a part in gross or minor adjustments .?
Is this like shoting film without a light meter ?
Is the side finder in anyway an indicator of true color?
Is this suicide or sane? Shoting without a monitor ?
1) by leaving the color settings on the factory presets
I have scene file f6 24p advanced to the settings advised by the man at Pine Lake Films and the rest of the settings on f6 are set as per sugestion of the dvfilm data because it seems to be outputting to dvd with great results in their case .
i will be getting a monitor but at 700$ a pop , it will take some time ,
Anyone who finished a gig just fine using the dvx100a as asolo act with no monitor .Let me hear some news please
Good or bad
Thanks

Hey Bruce,

I never use a monitor, and actually prefer not to use one as a director. As a director of photography, I never used one either. I finished my own feature in April 2005, shot another feature on the XL2, using the small eyepiece, and am gearing up for a shoot on Friday with no plans on using a monitor.

So long answer, no, it is not suicide to not use a monitor.

thanks
still getting the hang of this .
your reply helps .
Did you have wild ranges of color correction in post ?
or was that all taken care of by consistant white balance proceedure? /
Thanks again for the help
Cheers Bruce

Not using a monitor leaves a big question ? over colour until you view it in editing. The DVX LCD is pretty good, but I often see a vast difference in colour rendition. Also focus can be an issue... if your shooting without ana adapter its less so.
