Monitoring for hand-held/run & gun

..just wondering what folk thought of this rig:

I know it's an F3 - but specifically the implementation of using a TVL as the exclusive monitor (no eye-piece).

I'm from the 2/3rds world - so to me it looks like using an EFP viewfinder on an ENG camera.

I've only been on the Af100 for about 7 months but focus remains the last comfort level hurdle.

Is anyone sticking their face in a sun shield out in the field?

He must have good vision. I couldn’t do that since I’m a little farsighted. The shoulder rig looks super basic. Nothing but a baseplate with rails and Aaton wooden grips.

Zach Zamboni's a talented DP.

I like his approach to cameras, & strive towards similar rigs. In his Twitter feed he mentions his desire for add a TVLogic EVF to the F3.

Somehow I missed it's announcement. I dislike using monitors handheld so currently use the ZFinder EVF, & will definitely check out the TVLogic.

The handgrips look like Aaton's. In addition to Olof, Vocas also offers similar grips.

I like the Aaton grip setup really close to the lens. If Olofs worked that way I’m sold. Not sure about the bracket he has for the rails. The bracket that goes under the grip looks good but not out far enough in front. I haven’t used it only going by what I think would work with the AF-100 on my shoulder instead of in front of me.

The F3 seems to be easier to configure as a shoulder camera since its twice as long.

How cool would it be if you could use the grip that comes off the AF-100 and mount it on the rails. It has a cold shoe adapter on it and two 1/4 20 screws. If its mounted on a cheese plate and then attached to the rails.

I had a little back and forth on Twitter with him - looks like they were using the TVL but have recently switched to the DP4 - but ultimately waiting for the TVL EVF...they preferred the TVL because of the built in WFM...

I would love it if the DP4 had a waveform in it. I wonder if firmware can be updated to add that and zebra strips.

Erik,
I asked the same thing to Chris at smallhd but he said that it's not possible. Here is his answer:
"Thanks for your suggestions. While we continue to add as many features as possible with our Firmware Updates, there are some things that we will just never be able to add because of hardware limitations. Waveform & vector scopes are two of those features."
I think we should wait for a new release somewhere in the future.
Best,
Diego
