Monitoring audio

Any recommendations on headphone amps so I can monitor the audio going to the camera from a shotgun mic? I will be the boom op

This item here will allow you to monitor the audio, but not change or control levels. Its very inexpensive and if you are looking for a way to just monitor it may be something for you to check into. This was suggested to me by MattinStL when I needed something similar to what you are asking for.

I can understand the budget issue but the SD amp isn't THAT expensive and it has a major benefit. You actually need to be able to monitor 2 sources - the sound going FROM the mic to the camera AND the camera return via its headphone output. Notice that the MM-1 has both source and return monitoring and you can switch select one or the other or set it up for split-ear monitoring where you get both at once. It boosts your mic to line level which is usally a good thing from a noise immunity standpoint and it also provides phantom power for the mic. I've always found the most economical approach is the buy the right stuff right from the get-go rather than compromising and later upgrading.

Thanks Steve... Wise advice.... I'll look into this as an option too.
