We just bought the Ikan 7" (VX7e) Monitor and used it on it first job this week.

We were extremely pleased with it and now can highly recommend it to anyone considering a small onboard..

Apart from the features and specs shown in the link...we found the simplicity, easy useful front panel buttons and access to the menu (single page) a delight to work with.

Image is sharp and the color an excellent match for our 1700 Pannys as well as the on camera LCD. Viewing angles are excellent.

Calibration controls, pixel to pixel, false color , 3 power inputs, Component, Composite SDI, HDMI inuts and loop thrus. excellent. This monitor is very well featured and specced.

Believe it won a lot of awards this year.

Thanks for the heads-up, i was just about to buy a Marshall, but i'm digging this little monitor.

We agree on something! I also just bought the VX7E and am really impressed with it. IKAN has a trade-in program that allowed me to send in my V8000HDMI and pay the difference for the '7E. Love it! Also bought the attachable sunshade/hood which works well.

Scott...we agree on lots of things I am sure!

BTW: I am in the workshop making up my own 12v 7.2 a/h gel battery packs.

I intended to run it off mains alone but my AC advised that its worth having some battery power and not having to wait for power up on the set. Made sense to me.

Will get some additional camera batteries for it soon....but they are so expensive and I dont think they have a long life time anyway..

I've got a couple of unused AB Dionic 90's that I run my monitor with, as long as it's not mounted to the camera. Ikan has an adaptor plate that mounts on the back of the monitor. I attached a spare AB mount to it and can power the monitor all day. If it's mounted on camera with a noga arm, I use the lightweight Sony cam batteries. The only discouraging fact is that when you initialize SDI out on the AF, you defeat the LCD viewfinder on the camera.

Here's the cam today chasing Eagles on river - still liking the 270 degree shutter. No time for the monitor.

Thanx Kenny

I asked the question because I did wonder how a 12-24v monitor runs on AF100 camera batteries.

I am building my own . I do not need them to be mounted onboard. They will connect via the XLR DC connection.

Looks interesting, thanks for the heads up. Been struggling on location shoots in full sun. I'll take a look!
