Pana makes an external live viewfinder for the GF1 (DMW-LVF-1)

"Panasonic's External Live View Finder mounts to the hot shoe of DMC-GF1 digital cameras and provides a full-time live view function with a magnification of 1.04x (0.52x in 35mm equivalent) and 100% field of view regardless of what lens is used. Because it displays the same information as the GF1's LCD, it is effectively used in situations where the LCD is difficult to see, such as under bright sunlight. The LVF is also handy for low-angle shots because it can be tilted vertically from 0 to 90 degrees."

it actually connects to a port behind the hot shoe - to my old eyes it looks like a mini mini HDMI (too much to hope for of course) but the fact is that there is a port - and if the right cable were to be attached and conected to the right monitor..... we SHOULD have an external monitor.

any comments???

ah well it was worth a try.

even if it is low res - it's still an external monitor - do you know what type of connection it is (maybe it's a custom Panasonic thing)?

Doesn´t the GF1 have an HDMI output? Can´t it be used to feed an external monitor to pull focus?

the GF1 has the same HDMI port as the GH1 and neither of them give a live feed from camera, only on playback

Damn! Since my Oly EP1 did it I thought the GF1 and the GH1 would do it to. This sucks.

has anyone figured out a way to attach an external monitor to the viewfinder port yet? i dont really care how low res it is, it'll be good enough for the purposes i want it for.

the gf1's viewfinder port outputs a signal which is shown as a video signal in the viewfinder.

so, why do you think that no one has been able to take that signal and show it on an external monitor, isn't it just a digital video signal like sdi, or is it encrypted or something?

i have no experience with electronics, but with my video recorder i just stick a lead in it, stick the other end in the tele and it works lol why cant everything be that simple :D

by the way, if it really is a low res signal, that means there is no intention from panny to release a high res viewfinder :(
