I'm hoping someone can help me out with my little dilemma I have here.... So I just bought a Brevis MP.1, non-flip. I don't nor had the bucks for a good monitor, though. I have acess to some SD monitor at school to compose my shots, but this is what I'd like to know. Am I able to accuratly focus using the EVF and FOCUS ASST on my HVX? I know it'll be upside down and all, but will the adapter allow for this to work? If not at all, any suggestions on what to do? Besides buy a monitor, hahaha.

I have the same question and am in store for a SD (640x480) monitor. I can answer your question then! Do you have a HVX200 original or A? I have an original and the flip out LCD is horrible! What a place to skimp.

Yea, I'm running just the 200. I've read the eyepiece has higher res than the LCD, so I always just fine focus with that anyways. Just don't know iff its high enough to yield an accurate focus with... I hope so. But yea, pleeeeaaaase let me know if focusing through the LCD or EVF will be accurate enough, so I can scheme up some way to get a monitor, hahaha.

No it won't be. You can eyeball it but the footage will always be much sharper focused on a high-res monitor.

Ehhh, ok, thats about the best I can do right now, though. Maybe the age-old tape-measuring method will need to be put into practice, too. I really wish there was an alternative method of focusing with an adapter....

using a simple focus chart helps. You can eyeball focus with a chart because you can clearly see where the chart is in prime focus because the lines become so enhanced and contrasted. Another method I like is using digital zooming in on the picture, this feature isn't on the HVX or DVX to my knowledge but ive used external monitors that have it plus the canon 5D Mark II, 7D, and T1i has it, and you can enlarge a spot on the image to check focus and it will always be accurate. But your subject is usually moving, so you cant really film with that function on, cuz its awkward and you cant see your frame, but it helps as a starting point.

Yes, it works

Yes, it works

"FOCUS ASST on my HVX"

Yes, normally I never use the focus assist, and only use my eye on the v8000HD to focus, but when I worked with others they use both but rely more on the focus assist, I only rely on the monitor,

so to answer your question you can just rely on the focus assist, it depends on your preference and what your used to, just do some tests to train yourself before you shoot the real deal
