High-Res Monitoring Solution: Low Cost Semi-DIY project

If you find the right controller board, you should be able to adjust the screen to fit accurately.

Can you go into an options menu or anything with his housing? Adjust brightness or do you have to use the remote?

It's accurate enough for me. The top and bottom or 100% and the side or very slightly cropped. To my eyes less then underscan.

There are buttons on the monitor for controls. (i dont use um much, only for on/off)
I just use the remote cus its easier.

Will the remote allow you into an options menu? I'm thinking about buying and testing one out and possibly just creating a case for it. It's just so huge, though.

Is there a flip option via remote?

i don't think it has a flip. it does have 4:3
bruce put mounting holes on all sides so u can just flip the monitor.
yes the remote lets u into the options. cant go through it right now, but i will try to go through the options soon.

I searched today and the only way it seems I can use s-video with this thing is with this cable.

Does anyone here think the benefit will be worth the $30?

dont buy that cable...I dont think its 7-pin mini-din. I bought a seven pin not configured right... and it looks just like that connector. same price too

Hey does your lilliput have the touch screen, cause its reputed to make you image soft, but I read you can easily take it out? My lilliput is the 619GL-70NP/C [without touchscreen] and its very sharp for SD

Hey is that the actual box that Bruce is selling? I'd be interested in seeing a better picture.
Don't worry Bruce, I don't think I'll copy a swivel design. :)
but just curious about it.

Wow, thanks deedive! I'm lucky to have such a nice guy as a customer.

Zcream, the Tekkeon charger is rated 100-240V.

Kholi, you are on the money but your estimate of the cost is a little low. Definitely > $400 for me once you get a decent controller and case. And that's not counting the time it takes to assemble, test, pack, etc. Also, it's not counting the cost of the prototypes, the hundreds of hours of design labor and even little things like the fact that I've now spent more money than any reasonable person would on screws in order to find the perfect lengths. If anyone wants to buy $50 worth of black anodized screws that turned out to be the wrong length when I revised my design, let me know ;) It's a hobby for me - if I were doing it as a business, I'd price it at $1000. Anyway, at the moment I am taking orders for a run in October for $850 (people who have been emailing me and waiting for it for months will get it for a little less). Oh yes, the controller I'm using doesn't stretch, it cuts off the sides a tiny bit (gotta fit a 16:9 picture into a 15:9 1280x768 LCD somehow).

Siniarch, that's the pic of prototype that I sold deedive for a slightly reduced price. I think you saw that case when we were color-correcting Heinz? Not sure, I've been so busy lately it's all kinda a crazy dream...

I'm traveling right now, so will answer all questions in more detail later. Take care, everyone.

Basically, menu options are:
- custom picture settings (contrast, brightness, sharpness/peaking, color temp)
- picture-in-picture (you can see SD video feeds in a little window which you can move around and re-size, maybe useful for keeping an eye on your b-camera?)
- different stretch / zoom settings for SD modes (don't use those much ;)
- factory menu for RGB balance

There are little homemade buttons on the side of the monitor that allow you to access the menus as well as choose your input and switch the monitor on and off. You can also access all functions through the remote.

I'll have an update on everything and maybe even a decent webpage in a week's time or so.

Cheers

That seems like a nice case Bruce. I did not see that when we CC. I saw the one that just covers the components and has cutouts all over the place.

You should come over and check my LCD out when you get back. I'm going to the a meet with the metalshop this monday to have them make me a custom box. Should be done when you get back. :)

Also did you see my Tekkeon to Rails attachment solution?

I'm an idiot. I ordered the new Xenarc 2008 without reading here first, and it does not work with my PAL HVX. 720p works to some degree, as it shows a crisp picture, but it does not fill the screen and is badly stretched (basically 4:3), 1080i does not work at all. There seems to be a misunderstanding that the mayflash does not work with PAL, but this is not the case. Also I've heard reports of the 2007 version of the xenarc working with 1080i.

If someone for some reason would like to swith an 2007 Xenarc for my 2008 version, then let's go.

Does anyone know if the liliput works in PAL land?

BTW the nebtek adapter works very well with the xenarc. I haven't really tested it to much, but it have lasted just fine for me for a couple of huors with one of my 5600mah dvx-user batteries.

That was a great thread that died away. Did Kholi give up?
Did anyone get the Lilliput to work in PAL land?
If you say it only supports 1080i does that mean I can´t shoot 720 or I only can´t output 720 via the cable. I am sure there is a menusetting in the HVX that allows you to set the output to 720 or 1080, but you can switch shooting mode regardless. So can I shoot 720 while "outputting" in 1080 for the mayflash/Lilliput?

I didn't give up! LoL. I ended up with a Lilliput Non-Touch Screen and I use it often. Noga Arm stays bolted to it, shorter cable for the component out (Gonna order two more to have just in case, those suckers are REALLY good. No image disconnections like the long HVX cord that comes with it. Blech).

Of course if you're going for BIG PRODUCTION you're going to be renting better monitors all around, but, this one does well for your own stuff.

Sorry for abandoning the thread, but the info is there. I just move on to different hair-brained schemes often. =P

Hi Kholi, Im looking at buying the Xenarc 7", with the mayflash. Are you saying that I can NOT shoot at 1920 1080 or rather 1440 1080 HDV with this monitor. my camera a Canon A1 only shoot in 1920 1080 in HD so that would meen I could not use this monitor at all. Or have you ment that the monitor supports 720 but I can still shoot HDV 1920 1080 and get a pictor at 1280 720 on the monitor.

This would be realy importent to know. Thanks

Somethin's up with the Xenarc. It didn't work well with the setup so I sent it back.

It wouldn't do either 720 or 1080, I can't remember which one, but it was enough to annoy me so I switched to the Lilliput.

Make sure you get batteries made for it. There are too many batteries involved and I do not have the knowledge to make my own, sometimes it gets cumbersome.

So with the Lilliput, your getting 1920 1080i, and no hassles?

What Lilliput did you end up getting?

What about the Dynamix?

Thanks.

The Lilliput model at the beginning of the thread is the one I got and use.

I didn't have good look with the Dynamix, unfortunately.

Thanks Kholi for your time, and sharing. Im sure a lot of people will learn a great deal form this thread.:)
