Hi, I am working with two 19 inch Dell CRT monitors. The recommended resolution for these monitors is 1280 x 1024. But with that resolution I get not a proper aspect ratio, everything looks wider than it should been.
Going back to 1024 x 768 gives a proper aspect ratio, but it looks to unrefined and everything is too big. So I like the recommended setting, but it's no good for this CTR, I have read that it is a proper resolution for LCD displays...
Now I work with a Ati 9700 card, and the other day when I checked my settings,
I saw an other option in the resolution settings: 1360 x 1024 !
This setting gives me the proper aspect ratio! So I keep this setting.
But I have actualling two questions about this issue:
1. Why do Dell recommend a screen resolution that do not give a proper aspect ratio on this CRT monitor?
2. In a few months I am going to upgrade my system to a HP xw8200 with a NVidia Quadro FX1400 card. I am keeping my current monitors. Since this resolution of 1360 x 1024 is rare, does the FX1400 card have the same resolution as an option? Can owners of that card give me a answer to that, because I have never heard of this resolution before, and NVidia's list of resolutions don't contain this resolution of 1360 x 1024.
Ok, since nobody have replied to this, I will explain something:
640 x 480 is a low resolution with a proper aspect ratio...
if I multiply it with factor 2, then we see that something is not right:
640 x 2 = 1280
480 x 2 = 960
You see?
How can 1280 x 1024 be a screen resolution if it has not a proper aspect ratio...
