Monitor Recommendations

Hey everyone, I'm currently looking for a monitor.

Pre-requisites:

-Focus Peaking
-Zebras
-Waveforms & Histogram
-At least 1000 nits of brightness

-4k60 a plus.

any recommendations?

Just need a monitor, don't really need the function to externally record, I have looked at the Ninja V, Shinobi, and Portkeys, SmallHD, they all seem to have drawbacks. I think 5" will do just fine. Intent is to use it for short films, corporate and wedding work.

IMO, in today's world - with all of the available options - it makes little sense to purchase a monitor-only if one with recording capabilities is just $100-$200 more (with the set of features you're looking for). Maybe only in rare situations if a monitor has one special feature nothing else has, or it's 2 ounces and lightweight is important, etc.

Best way to narrow down your top choices is by which one has the least drawbacks for your own work above.

Norboro.. It is worth considereing that recorders have mass and burn batteries.

Overall my opinion is that all of the monitors mentioned above are childrens toys and basically a liability on set.

Transvideo are production tools.

But, like me you probably cannot afford one.

I suggest you start with a 5in Feelworld for $150 from amazon!

Absolutely worth considering and a good point, but they only burn batteries if you actually record on them. Mass is not much different with something like the Ninja V and small batteries compared to many options, but yea...huge difference in stand-by time vs. recording time.

well take into consideration that, the majority of the use is going towards weddings, which will be run and gun where i'll be on a gimbal and often a monopod.

Then your most important feature is screen brightness. You'll never find a monitor that ticks all your boxes, just choose one with 2000+ nits.

IMO Feelworlds are likely as robust as any other cheap monitor (atomos/smalHD) (small do some higher end versions that may be more robust)

Remember seeing a screen is both its brightnes and lack of reflectivity.. 2000 nit may mean nothing with a reflective screen.

Sad truth is much pro viewing is done through a selfbuild cardboard hood of some nature.
