Monitor output - how possible?

Tester13 and others who helped develop this hack are simply amazing. They have essentially given us a brand new camera.

Not to demean their great works, I'm just wondering how possible it is to enable video output during recording. For those in the know, what are the technical obstacles that need to be overcome before we can implement that?

For my type of work, the lack of monitor output is the number 1 obstacle that stops me from using a GH1 for production works, more so than the mud problem. No director wants a camera if he/she can't see the shot, no matter how good the image quality is. This is one big reason the 5D / 7D still owns the market of HDSLR shooting gigs. A full res HDMI output is great to have, but to me, even a composite output is highly usable - or sometimes preferable.

I am aware that this feature is being worked on, and the cooks are busy cooking. I have been searching the forum daily for any sign of hope. I'm just curious what kind of chance we are looking at.

The reason I'm asking this is, I am prepping a couple projects for the next few months. If there is no end in sight on the monitor output problem, I would have to start gearing up for a Canon package.

At one point Vitaliy indicated that this is not one of those "low-hanging fruit" type deals and requires studying and understanding firmware in greater detail. Personally, I would be happy if HDMI out would work simply in live-view mode. You could record that stream if you wanted and split it of to an external monitor as well.

Vitaliy is looking into HDMI output.
This may be difficult as it might tax the CPU too much during recording.
The composite is doable in my humble opinion.
My Sony H50 can output composite video as well as audio during recording.
GH1 will also do that in recording mode if you press the Delete button for a few seconds.
It blanks out once you hit the Record button.

You mean composite out is available in live-view mode (not recording)?
