Monitor for the HVX?

Right off the bat I only see a composite input on the Varizoom. I don't believe you can get an HD signal over composite.

What i don't understand is the resolution...The specs according to these web pages say 1440 x 234 pixels for the Varizoom and only "800 Horizontal x 480 Vertical Dots" for the Marshall...is that right?

Right - I'm OK with them not being HD. The Marshall has Component YPrPb HD/SD input do you can feed it an HD signal that gets displayed on a non HD LCD.

The Varizoom has standard composite input.

What I am looking for is a monitor that I can use to make focusing easier and that has reasonable color accuracy.

I guess my question is would I be wasting my money on the Varizoom monitor or if I should step up and get the Marshall.

That's the thing about the Varizoom. From the specs it looks like you only get Color, Brightness, Contrast, Tint adjustments. Would be hard to accurately line up color bars from the camera. The Marshall has Blue gun and chroma adjustments.

I've only done accurate color monitoring with pro units. Not sure how you would line up color bars with out blue gun/chroma.

With that said, you can probably use the Varizoom for a reasonably accurate exposure judgement...and at $399 it might be worth it...

You can use a blue day for night 47B tiffen filter as a blue gun. Just look thru it when adjusting color bars. Reasonably accurate. A cheap way to use no-blue gun monitors.
