Monitor for HD editing?

I have a question....

I'm looking at monitors for use in editing HD footage. Say from a Sony z1u.

Is the best thing still a broadcast monitor, with underscan, etc? I assume it is...

But if I can't afford the best what would be the better alternative?

LCD monitor with 1280 x 1024 resolution?

LCD HD-ready tv?

to get the full video u want a monitor at a minimum resolution of 1900 1200 to get the full image, or and LCD HD ready tv. I would go with an LCD Monitor, because for me it would be more desk freindly.
