monitor confusion

I'm a little confused (which happens often) about the THX glasses. Do you need the DVD of the Incredibles to use the test patterns? They mention about the capabilities of "your DVD player" so I'm assuming there is a set up menu on the DVD that allows one to run the test with patterns on the DVD as desribed in the directions. Is this correct or am I not reading the instructions right?
 
I solved this issue for myself by picking up a little 9" Sony production monitor on ebay for around $170.00. It has Blue and Underscan, etc. Well worth the price if you can find a good deal on one.
