This is the first Action short I have ever shot. Its not long because if I sucked it up I didn't want to waste peoples time. So we shot it in about four hours w/Canon 7D (50mm f/1.8) and a Panasonic HVX200a. I cut it on Adobe CS4. We decided to make this into a webseries. So this is the first episode and we they are going to be told in reverse. So the next episode is Sunday then Saturday and so on. Please give it a look and leave a comment.

Thanks for watching,
Sean

There's no sound because

- you wanted to be like this ? No ambience sounds, no "car arriving", car door opening", "sound of clothes that moves when someone moves", "sound of footsteps", "dialogues"?

- you had a "soundguy" but the sound was as bad as hell so you just removed it ?

- you don't have a soundguy for now but just wanted to show more the "image" aspect of it ?

A combination of the first and third one. We were filming mostly on a 7D. And like I said before this was my first attempt at filming action. So I didnt want to worry about getting alot of people out there and it ends up being a big pile. So the play was to film without sound and do ADR. We did ADR, but it really didnt add anything to the short. So I decide to just leave all the dialogue out. I just wanted to have the sound aspects of the guns. thats why i didnt put in any of the door closing, walking, ambient sound. It became more about focusing on the visual aspect of it. We are making a series of shorts from this idea, and there is all the sound you will want in them. This was like I said before more of a test to see if I can do it.

I dont want anyone to think that I was lazy and just said to hell with the sound. I know that sound is one of the most over looked aspects of film. sound can make or break a film in my opinion. So i made the choice that I would only put the sound in if it added to the short. And I think it took away from the short more than it added. I hope that answers you. and in the series again there will be sound (i.e. dialogue ambient, walking, door, etc.)

thanks

I get it.

It do has a solution for the "overpopulated countries" :-p (starts with 6 and end with 2 :-p)

Hey man, great job on the short film! Nice music, great color tone. Honestly, the lack of normal sounds made the few you did hear more impactful. The gunshot, the scream, etc. Great job on that.

My only critique is that there was no gore after the first impact of the bullets. This lost huge amounts of continuity, with the people's faces being shown after they've been shot through the back of the head and there's no blood or anything. That said, you stated that this was mostly a test, and it was really well done for a test. Just take note of the blood and gore continuity later on as most people look for it.

will do. to be honest this was the first time I ever worked with after effects. so this was shot with the sole purpose to do the effects all in post. we plan on doing some real blood and bullet wounds for future shorts. thanks for watching and I completely agree with you.
