Molten metal and explosive sparks at 60fps - slow motion video

Music video I edited from footage from an iron pour. It was my first attempt at shooting footage at 72fps and working with slow motion video. I figured what better environment than shooting molten metal, fire spinners and explosive spark blasts in slow motion. Set to an instrumental track of Eraser by NIN

Premiere Pro CS4. I shot everything in 720p 72fps
Created a project that was 720p 24 fps. I imported my clips and in the media viewer(?) I right clicked on the file and clicked "Interpret Footage." This opens up a menu to allow me to set it to whatever frame rate I wanted. I put in 23.976 and then dropped it into the timeline.

Footage will then play in slow motion. You can also import the clip again if you want to be able to see it in full speed in the project.

That was my workflow. If I could have done something better or another way, I'm all ears. I just sort of figured that's how it would work.

God that was rad...

if you sped up the pace of the edit, and cut out some of the fat while keeping the girl in.... and that explosive crescendo... youve got something there.

i would send it to trent.

I stayed on the colored fire for a little too long, I will cop to that. Thing is, I had a sequence of events and I was hard pressed to find something that would go with the arc and fit in that space. Also, even now I can't help but stare at that fire. There's so much going on in there. I could just extend the shot directly before the colored fire bit. In the end, that was a little too short lived.

Very cool, some parts I agree were too long as well but overall some awesome footage.

How did you protect the camera in that environment?

Thanks Hal2. I am tightening it up soon and will post the results. It might get screened at an event so I need to get on it.

I was decently far away (kept at bay by a barricade) that I did not use anything to protect the camera. I asked other people who'd gone to the event and from where were standing, nothing significant ever reached the spectators.

There was a DVX100 somewhere in the crowd as well. No clue who that was or if anything will come of the footage. Come to think of it it would be cool to see comparisons of footage shot of the same thing with a DVX. Thankfully, I didn't have to go through the hassle of capturing footage
