So keep in mind im a final cut guy, but im asking this as one of my co workers wanted to buy a mojo+ a nitris, for her laptop avid system, is there any reason for this? I thought the mojo was just a smaller nitris (less power of course)

Niris has all the analog connectins whole Mojo has only digtial. Nitris also has on board DNxHD encode/decode while Mojo lets the host CPU do the work.

There's actually 3 hardware systems for MC. Mojo SDI, Mojo DX and Nitris DX. Which one is right for your friend depends on what type of work she's doing and of course her budget. There's no reason to have more than one.

The Mojo SDI is legacy hardware and the lowest cost of the three - connected by firewire (slower).
The DX systems are more expensive, but offer accelerated processing when used with MC 3.0 The DX systems are faster because they utilize a PCI slot for connection. On a laptop you need an ExpressCard.

If she's working with SD video only then a Mojo SDI should be sufficient. If she's doing multiple streams of HD then she may want to have a look at the DX products. If she needs analog in then the her only choices are Mojo SDI or Nitris DX.

FWIW, the original non-SDI Mojo works with Media Composer v3.0.

I'm not sure if the NitrisDX works with a laptop or not.
