i get two answers every time i ask it. im always asking does the cam/play deck go into the mojo and then to the firewire card or do i connect the cam direct to one firewire card and the mojo by itself to a seperate firewire card (with no deck or cam connected)

Re: mojo help

The Mojo will connect to an authorized Firewire port (IEEE-1394a is all that it requires to do what it needs to do). However, I have had good luck configuring my own (unauthorized) PC setup with great results! Once you connect your Mojo to your computer via one Firewire cable, the camera/deck will then connect to your Mojo. So, from that point on, the Mojo box acts as the hub for your camera's/deck's IN's and OUT's.

If possible, I'd recommend connecting the Mojo to the Firewire port that is on the motherboard as oppossed to a card. I'd also recommend getting a screaming Firewire card (IEEE-1394b) strictly for your hard drive storage to ensure maximum data transfer rates. The Mojo has nothing to do really with the hard drive(s) - that is strictly between your computer and OS. And remember, the Mojo MUST EXCLUSIVELY use the Firewire bus that you choose.

Hope that clears some things up. Mojo is actually a slick design that is powerful yet simple to use and connect. Well worth getting one if you have Avid Xpress Pro!

understanding something."

Sure, my recommendation to you is to use the Firwire400 port (IEEE-1394a) that is probably already built into your motherboard rather than buying two Firewire cards.  The reason being is that you can take advantage of the Firewire400 bus that (generally) comes hard mounted to your PC motherboard.  Mojo only requires Firewire400.

Then go buy a Firewire800 PCI card (IEEE-1394b) with Firewire800 hard drives.  That way you buy only one Firewire card to maximize your system and everything sort of balances out.  Check the specs on your Pyro hardware, you may have everything that you need.

Does that make sense to you?  Let me know if not and I'll try to clarify.  And anybody else reading feel free to jump in.

Well, you should find out. I recommend not running Xpress Pro with Mojo on anything less than the latest Pentium 4 (3gHz or better). Not sure about the Mac side of things.

If you don't have a Firewire port on your motherboard, then you would have to buy two Firewire cards. I'm assuming for your PCI slots in a towered PC.
