Moisture prevents power on?

Hi,

Yesterday I was shooting in torrential rain. I had my HVX200 wrapped up good and warm in a slicker, despite this, the camera did get a tiny bit damp.

Once the EXT scene was shot, I powered off for ten minutes or so. When I went to switch on again, the camera wouldn't power up. I tried various batteries and the PSU, but nothing.

Having left the cam somewhere warm overnight, it's now absolutely fine. What I wondered is, does the HVX have a feature that prevents power up if there's moisture present?

It's called a moisture sensor or more frequently, a Dew Sensor.
It's to protect the camera from us users who never wait long enough.

One tip if you shoot in rainy areas, like Oregon. Keep a hair dryer in your production trailer. Helps in a pinch. NOTE, don't get stupid and use it on high heat directly on internal components. This is just to minimize the down time in borderline situations. I've had to use ours a few times over the years.

Thanks for that Ted - it's what I'd suspected, but when a camera fails to power on, it pays to be sure!

Also, in case you haven't considered it, after shooting in such conditions you can store the cam somewhere with some of those silicate packets to draw out any lingering moisture.
