If you're in the New York City area and would like to check out a feature film shot on the HVX-200 and transferred to 35mm with an ARRILASER then see MODERN MAN at City Cinemas Village East (2nd Ave. and 12th St. in Manhattan).

The New York Times review by Matt Zoller Seitz is available here.

The film's playing in New York through Thursday, April 19. I (Eric Becker) produced and wrote the film along with Justin Swibel, who also directed, edited, and photographed it.

The official website with clips and stills from the film is http://www.27parts.com.

THAT's REALLY COOOOOOOL
CONGRATULATIONS on all of your success!
I remember seeing the trailer a while ago, and thought it was the weirdest thing I had ever seen, yet it was intriguing to watch... and I say that as a compliment!
Good luck with everything!

Finally! Clips with brilliant sound quality.

Finally! Clips with brilliant sound quality.

I saw the clips on the website for the feature "MODERN MAN". I loved it. I would like to actually see the entire thing but I live in Hawaii :embarasse

Just listening to the audio in your clips was ultimately refreshing. I was tired of always seeing clips and trailers from other people who had beautiful compositioning and visuals but had poor sound quality. I've always been told, "What is good footage with no equally good sound". The sound editing was fantastic on your part. Bravo!

I would like to asks you 2 questions based on just watching the clips.
1) Did you use any mics when shooting? If so, what did you use?
2) Was all of the sound raw or foleyed? If foleyed, what kind of mic did you use?

Mahalo. Keep up the fantastic work!

Just saw the film. Wasn't the biggest screen, but you got the idea. Let me first say that I'm happy I prepared myself for this film by reading that NY Times review. I may have just walked out if I didn't know what to expect. I agree with the review that there is a very accute attention to rhythm in this film. I wonder how much of this film was written and how much thought really went into it? Do you know the reasons behind the characters actions and why he makes the choices that he does? While I found some of the things he was exploring interesting, it almost felt like you just had him play around the yard for awhile giving the direction that he was a young child exploring the spaces and textures around him with no specific purpose.

The use of sound was helpful in feeling the textures that he was experiencing.

The hand held/documentary feel absolutely worked, but I thought there could have been more careful consideration in terms of the cinematography. For example, the opening scene where he has on a white shirt and white shoes that were constantly blowing out and fairly distracting.

I was not wowed by the HVX's image, but I don't think that the filmmakers used it to its fullest potential.
